LoudounCountyPublicSchoolsnowhasarevisionintheirsexualharassmentandsex discriminationpolicy TheJune26SchoolBoardvote,comingtwoyearsafterthemuchdebatedpolicychangeonthe countylevel,waspassedunanimously. OnJan.5,2010,theLoudounCountyBoardofSupervisorsvotedtoincludelanguageinthe countysHumanResourcesPolicyHandbookforbiddingdiscriminationbasedonsexual orientationandgenderidentity.Thevotesparkedheateddebatebetweenboardmembers EugeneDelgaudio(RSterling),whotriedtostrikedownthemeasure,andthenSupervisor StevensMiller(DDulles),whovotedinfavorofthepolicy. ForLCPS,thepolicychangewasmoreofaformality,mergingtwodifferentpoliciesintoone concreteplan.Thetworevisedpoliciesaddresssexdiscriminationandsexualharassmentfor LCPSemployeesandstudents,servingastwoseparatepolicies,respectively. TheSchoolBoardsLegislativeandPolicyCommitteerevisedbothpoliciesJune4andvoted unanimouslytosendtheirrecommendedchangestotheboardforconsideration. Thechangesweretechnicalandintendedtoeliminatesomeunnecessaryoverlapinthepolicies andtostreamlinetheprocessforprompthandlingofharassmentcomplaints,NedWaterhouse, deputysuperintendentforLCPSsaid. ThecommitteedecidedtodeletePolicy32forsexdiscriminationandaddittoPolicy72,which servedasthepolicyforsexualharassment.
