STATEMENT PREPARED BY BURMESE ROHINGYAS LIVING IN AUSTRALIA

of BRCA (Burmese Rohingya Community Association in Australia ) have made this statement in relation to the barbaric massacre of ten Burmese Muslims in Tongoup
We, the Muslim community members

(Taungup) Township and genocide of Rohingya Muslims in Arakan state

It is very obvious that these racial riots took place on 8th June ,2012 is due to the ignorant to the rule of law in Arakan state that was orchestrated by the authorities in Arakan state. While the general human rights situation in Myanmar is far from satisfactory, the Rohingyas suffer from specific deeply persecutory polices
targeting them. The vast majority of Rohingyas are effectively denied Myanmar citizenship; subjected to severe restrictions on freedom of movement; marriage; forced labor; forced evictions; and extortion and arbitrary taxation. Other ethnic nationalities in Burma are not subjected to the same extent to such restrictions and human rights violations. The combination of allthese practices makes it almost impossible for Rohinyas to enjoy their right to an adequate standard of living. Therefore Rohingyas have developed antigovernment sentiments.

We would also like to brief the situation of this ethnic cleansing against the Rohinsya in Arakan State into following chronological order:

8th June2012
After Friday congregation, at about 2 p*.while a group of Rohingya Muslims were trying to join a prayer at Kayandan Islamic propagation centre (Tabligh Centre) for those 10 Muslims who were
murdered by Rakhine extremists at Taunggup on 3 June 2011, the security forces tried to stop them and then started firing at the crowd killing at least two people and injuring many others.

Two young Rohingyas who were returning home after Friday prayer from Maungdaw Central Mosque were seriously beaten by police. One of them whose hand was broken was released after sometime while the other who received head injury was still in police custody. His condition is still unknown.

9th June 2012

On fth June 2012 groups of armed forces with Buddhist Rakhine extremists went to the Rohingya villages. They opened fire to the Muslim houses. When the inmates left their homes the Rakhine extremists set on fire on the houses. Many houses in several villagers have been reported burnt into ashes. Many people were killed and several others injured. The villages of Hatalia, Sommonia, Razarbil, Kayandan and San Oo are among those which were attacked by the Rakhine extremists.

The Rakhine extremists joined the army and begun attacking the Rohingyas. Because of the curfew no Rohingya dares to go out, and at the absence of witness Rakhine extremists set fire on houses, village after village. If anyone comes out from the fire, he/she gets a bullet or two or more. Natala villagers and Rakhine extremists have been supplied guns and weapons to slaughter our innocent Rohingyas. In the meantime, racist monks are busy with media supplying fabricated news. These tragic events have been well planned in advance. At midnight (816112) the security forces from Ngakura village accompanied by the extremists from the Rakhine village of San Oo Rwa (Hatipra) attacked the Rohingya villagers of the same village killing one person injuring 3 others. The dead body was carried away by the killers. Moreover, Buddhist monks and Rakhine extremists escofted by security forces were announcing 'War on Kalas", (war on Rohingyas) along the street of Maungdaw. This message was spread like a wild fire all over Maungdaw and Buthidaung townships. Many security forces dressed in civil clothes but with arms are firing the Rohingyas. An estimated 100 Rohingyas were killed. As dead bodies were not handed over to the relatives or villagers. Exact number of death could not be confirmed. Some estimate that the number of death could exceed 200 Rohingyas. Thousands of people were deprived of food and water as Police, military, and security forces blocked the supply of basic and essential needs.

all across Arakan state as well as some parts of Burma. On 10th June, 2012 a large group of brutal Rakhine seized the Walis, a Rohingya village in Sittwe and eventually set the village on fire. Walis has had population of at least 2000 people. In Sittwe, Rakhines in Islamic attire and wearing Islamic caps were seen roaming in the streets of Sittwe trying to pretend to be Muslims. Fabricating the news as such that the crimes were committed by the Rohingya Muslims. In
These riots rapidly escalated fact, they have been successful in posting the messages as evidence in the news of SBS. The Sittwe Airport Mosque has been burnt .It has been reported that the riots have been supervised by Mr. Aung Myat Kyaw a MP at State Parliament. lt is reported that the house of Mohammed Hussein, a Rohingya was bumt down and he was killed at his house. For these kinds of atrocities, Aung Myat Kyaw is using Aung Tun Sein (Olympic group) and Pho Sein (Danyawadi group) as a tool to carry out

their vicious actions .Another source reported that a mosque in Magyi Myaing Village (lmile from Sittwe Airport) at Plok Taung was also destroyed. Nur Begum from Mya Gyi Myaing village Sittwe was chopped and packed in a Jute bag at Mayu Road. The dead body was said to have been hidden by

the police. Some Rohingya youths were carried away by Border Security Forces in Maung Daw. The number of youths taken was unknown. It is reported that at least 70 Rohingyas were killed from Myothugyi village

(Kaindapara) alone. A total of about 300 Rohingyas were believed to have been killed in the Maungdaw Township. It is very hard to ascertain the exact figures of the dead bodies have not been handed over to their relatives or villagers yet as the Rohingyas are not allowed to go in and out from the village. Azzamya village from Sittwe was burnt and l3 Rohingyas were shot dead by Police and Paramilitary Forces and four injured. Reliable sources said dead bodies were collected and taken away by the killers.

Government ordered to leave all the NGO from Northem Arakan State. Moreover, police officer Than Htin killed innocent one Rohingya girl whose name was Ramzaan and she was 12 years old. Furthermore, several mosques, Rohingya properties were destroyed in Nazee village, Buhar village, Mizama village, Zaldahana village, Rohingya village and Saki village in Sittwe by the aggressive

Rakhine extremist with collaboration of security forces and police. The Muslims were forced into their houses and set on fire with people inside.

11th June2012
Though curfew was imposed in the towns of Sittwe, Maung Daw, Buthidaung and other towns, the Rakhines killing imocent Rohingya Muslims in all these towns.
are allowed to go out and joined with the security forces and started

Arakan State is initially orchestrated by the Rakhine murderer in Taunggup on 3 June 2012 . Moreover , the authorities are also very complicit with the local Rakhine residents who have orchestrated the riots on the 3th June, 2012 . It is very regretable that local media in Burma is concealing the true account of the incident and they are vilifying our fellow Rohingya people as being very violent by citing that the Rohingyas have destroyed several monasteries , looted the belongings of the Rakhine residents and put on fire the Rakhine houses. One would easily comprehend the situation that how a minority without power , financial support , communication technology and freedom of movement can commit such crimes since it is impossible to commit such uimes as they were obviously fabricated by the Rakhine extremist led by Rakhine National Development Party , Chairman Dr. Aye Maung and MP Aung Myat Kyaw.
These communal riots that took place The atrocities sustained by the Rohingya Muslims in Sittwe are unbearable however unfortunately these cannot be presented as evidence as the Rohingyas are not allowed to go outside. The Rohingya Muslims living along the Kaladan River were reported jumped to the river to escape death from fire trapped houses. These people were not allowed to swim back to the shore.

in

Moreover, there are several politicians validating the false reports of local media as they are very politically motivated to gamer Rakhine votes. For example State MP , Aung Myat Kyaw played a vital role in coercing the Hindus who have same facial complexion of the Rohingyas to loot the shops as the shops were left unattended in Maungtaw due to the curfew . In addition, authorities took the photos of these Hindus while they were forced to wear Rohingya costumes such as Kurta (Islamic Gown) aud other Islamic dress codes whilst these Hindus were looting the unattended shops in Maungtaw. Furthermore , those Rohingyas who were wounded during the course of the protest in Maungtaw were taken to the hospital by the Rakhine mob and they left the wounded Rohingyas bleed to death and pour their blood into local Rakhine to make it look like the Rakhines had been murdered by the Rohingyas. These news items have been fabricated as such that the crimes were committed by the Rohingya Muslims.

In light of above facts it is very clear that a systematic cover up is being made by the so called democratic government of Burma in league with other political parties in Burma .We are very certain that these notorious cover up has been done solely to exterminate the Rohingyas permanently. Moreover, the international law defines these kinds of atrocities as crime against humanity.
The atrocities committed at Rohang village in Sittwe could have avoided if the ruling party, RNDP would have taken immediate actions when it was reported prior to committing such atrocities. The simple fact of the matter is that the atrocities in Sittwe have been orchestrated and organized by the RNDP leaders. The international news media has been relying on the fabricated information provided by the RNDP and Rakhines. There is no such report provided by the Rohingyas in the media. The reports shown in the international media were onesided report and it is baseless since it does have any kind of verifications. The curfew imposed in Arakan state

was apparently applicable to Rohingyas and does not apply to Rakhine .The Rakhine are still free to go out and gather in groups and continue to attack the Rohingyas.

We strongly recommend that the international community must bring pressure govemment to implement the following :

to bear on the Myanmar

o o o o o o o o o

To stop immediately the killing of the innocent Rohingyas as well as other Muslims in Burma. To stop immediately this massive scale genocide against the Rohingyas. To stop vilifluing the Rohingyas via the local media in Burma by producing fabricated stories and news
items.

To create a society which would be free from political oppression, economic exploitation, social
anarchy and cultural slavery. To stop ethnic cleansing against the Rohingyas immediately and unconditionally. To restore law and order particularly in Rakhine State. The International media should go inside Arakan State and find the true account of the atrocities. Put an end to the harsh regime of permits and travel bans currently imposed on Rohingyas in Burma. Relevant laws and policies goveming the zoning and allocation of land must be amended immediately. Provisions which are discriminatory must be repealed or amended.
