Date: July 6, 2012 Position: Ombudsperson Brooklyn Developmental Center Appointment Information: Permanent, full time, 37.5 hours per week, Monday-Friday 8:30 4:30; occasional evening and weekend hours. Salary range: $47,952 - $59,504 (Management Confidential SG-18 Equated) plus $3,026 Location Pay. The position is subject to a background check via the NYS Statewide Central Register of Child Abuse and Maltreatment. Appointment is pending NYS Division of the Budget approval to fill. Location: Brooklyn Developmental Center, 888 Fountain Avenue, Brooklyn, NY 11208 Minimum Qualifications: A Bachelor's degree AND three years experience working in programs for individuals with disabilities including: two years working directly with individuals with developmental disabilities; one year of advocacy experience in a human services field. A Master's degree in a health or human services field may be substituted for one year of the required general experience. The successful candidate will have demonstrated experience in, and commitment to, advocacy on behalf of individuals with developmental disabilities. Duties Description: Reporting to the Director of the Ombudsperson Program located in Schenectady, the Ombudsperson will be assigned to the Brooklyn Developmental Center operated by the NYS Office for People with Developmental Disabilities. The Ombudsperson is responsible for serving as an advocate for individuals with disabilities who are receiving services from the developmental center. The Ombudsperson will: advise and consult with the individual receiving services, parents, guardians, correspondents and other interested persons with respect to any complaints or issues; review and attempt to remedy specific complaints with responsible and appropriate staff; receive and keep confidential any complain t, information or inquiry from any source; provide technical assistance and training on the rights of individuals receiving services and other interested persons and on the role and responsibilities of the Ombudsperson; and perform other duties as assigned by the Director of the Ombudsperson Program.
