NEWPREFACE
ItisnowoveradecadesinceThePoliticalSoldier:AStatementwasfirst published,andclosecomradesbelievethatthisneweditionmeritsanewPrefaceaswell asanewcover.Sobeit. ThemoreorlessinstantsuccessofThePoliticalSoldierinnationalistcirclesin Englandhas,muchtotheimmensesurpriseoftheauthor,continueddowntothe presentdayandanewgenerationofThirdPositionists.Thissuccesshasnotbeen confinedtoEngland,buthasfounditswaytothosecountrieswheretheforcesof RevolutionaryNationalismhaveforeseentheneedforthistraditionalconceptionofLife andStruggle;and1994willwitnessthisspreadtobothFranceandLithuania,thelatter beingparticularlygratifyinginthelightofdevelopmentsinEasternEurope,andthe successofthePolisheditionpublishedinWarsawin1993. Thetextofthisreprinthasnotbeenalteredinanywayatall.Itwas,ofcourse, temptingtoupdatehereandthere,butonreflectionitbecameobviousthatsuchan updatingcouldonlyaffectdetails:inflationmightbeupordown;unemployment growingorreceding;governmentpartiescomingorgoing.Butnoneofthesedetails changeinanymeaningfulwaytheessentialmessageofThePoliticalSoldier:thatwhatis neededaboveallelseisafundamentalshiftinattitudetowardsstruggle,towardslife, towardsdestiny;thattherecannotbe,andwillnotbe,anyseriouschangeintheoverall directiontakenbythecountriesofEuropeuntiltheNewMan,likeagiantonthe horizon,capableofmouldingandinspiringaNewSocialOrder,arisesandbuildsitnot accordingtotheclausesorsubclausesofsomeabstractpoliticalmanifesto,but accordingtotheobjectivelytrueprinciplesofacreedbelievedandactedupon,and drawingtheirlifefromtheEternalLawofGod.WithoutthiscorebeliefthatourCauseis absolute,immutable,timeless,weruntheveryrealdangerofbetrayal:betrayalbyParty hacks;betrayalbythosetakenupwith"mediaimage";betrayalbythosemesmerizedby thedeceitandfalsityofliberaldemocracy. TheNewMan,therefore,isnotmerelyanobstacletobetrayal,but,infact,the onlyalternativetoaguaranteedbetrayal.TheNewManistheheraldoftheNewSocial Order,buthisappearanceatthismostcrucialoftimesinourHistory,isbynomeansa foregoneconclusion.Toomanythink,wrongly,thattheycanadherepubliclytoour values,yetleadaprivatelifeofdegeneracy;bythisismeantnotourtendencytosin,but rathertherefusaltoadmittheexistenceofSininourlivesandtoattempttoconquerit throughpainful,lifelongstruggle.Withoutthisconsciousnessofsin,andwiththe contradictionthatexiststoooftenbetweenourpublicbeliefsandourprivateactions,we enteruponthepathofhypocrisythatnecessarilyleadstothemotorwayofTreachery andBetrayal.TheNewManis,therefore,necessarilyamoralman,foronlythendoeshe possessthatprofoundinnerpeaceandconfidencethatallowshimtofighttheworld,its powersanditsdominations,unafraidofDeath. SomehavesaidthatThePoliticalSoldierappearstobedemandingthecreation ofWarriorSaints.Andsoitis.Whatistheproblemwiththat?Noonedoubtsfora momentthattremendouseffortanddedicationarerequiredtofulfilthisdemand,butit isawhollydesirableobjective,foraSaintseeksEndsthatareGoodandTrue,anduses MeansthatarePureandAdmirable.Whatkindofpoliticalmilitantisitthatdoesnot seektheGoodandtheTrue,thePureandtheAdmirable?Someremarkthat"Politicsis Page2

toodirty"forthistobepossible.Grantedthatpoliticallifehasbecomeviletoahorrible degreeinthemodemworld,itremainstrue,nonetheless,thatifwedonotaimforthe GoodandtheTrue,thePureandtheAdmirable,wewillalmostinevitablyendupsinking intothecesspitofpoliticalfilththatissuffocatingourEuropeaninheritance.Whocan listento,orfollowinfaith,politicalswholie,cheatorswindle;politicalswhocheaton theirwives,girlfriendsandcomrades;politicalswhoseEndsvaryaccordingtotheir ambition,opportunismandgreed?TheNewManmust,therefore,shineoutlikea blazingbeaconintheinfinitedark;bywhathesays;bywhathedoes;byhowheacts. NowhereistheneedforclarityofThoughtandActiongreaterthaninhowwe expressourbeliefs.TheveryfirsteditionofThePoliticalSoldierwaspublishedunder theauspicesoftheNationalFront,agroupthatthewriterquityearsago,andwhichhas toallintentsandpurposesdisappearedfromthepoliticallandscapeofthecountry.Deo gratias.ItdisappearedbecauseitconfusedtheIdeaandtheVehicle.TheIdeaisspiritual, somethingdivine,whilsttheVehicleismanmade,growingordiminishinginitsability toexpressandimplementtheIdea.TheIdearemainspure,evenwhentheVehiclehas becomecorrupt,hasrottedaway.TruthremainsforeverTruth,eveninaworldofliars. TheVehiclemerelyexiststoservetheIdea;onceithasceasedtodothat,itmustbe discardedforthesakeoftheIdea. Finally,letusaddressourselvestothefactthattheworldhaschanged dramaticallyinthelasttenyears.TheoldSovietUnionisapparentlydead;Euthanasia, thedesiretokilloldpeoplebylaw,isedgingtowardsvictoryinanumberofEuropean nationalParliaments;AIDSisstrikingdownpervertstheworldover,therevengeofa MoralOrdertoolongsneeredatorignored;theNewAge*movementistryingtofilla worldwidespiritualvacuumwithahocuspocusphilosophyoflifewhichisnomorethan WitchcraftandSatanismdressedupasanewandattractiveWayofLife.Yes,theworld haschanged,andwillcontinuetochangefortheworse.Itisgrowingdailymore unacceptable,dailymoreunbearable. ItisthisveryprocessofdisintegrationanddecadencewhichhasmadetheNew Man,thePoliticalSoldier,notless,butmoreurgent,morenecessarythaneverbefore. Thisbooklethasbeenwrittenwiththeexpressedintentionofactingasaspurto action.Heroicaction,vitalaction.Itisnotamanualwhichistobequotedfromasthough itwereHolyWrit,butapersonalstatementoftheprinciplesthatunderpinourcreed andourphilosophyoflife. Itmakesnoclaimtooriginality,butistheresultofwidereading.Adebtof gratitudeisexpressedtoalltheMastersfromwhomIhavelearned,butespeciallytoG.K. Themoderntyrantisevilbecauseofhiselusiveness.Heismorenamelessthanhisslave.He isnotmoreofabullythanthetyrantsofthepast;butheismoreofacoward. AllThingsConsidered(G.K.Chesterton) WhereverwelooktodayamongstthenationsofBritainandofEurope,wesee mountingevidenceofdisintegrationandofdecay.Theevidenceisthereforalltosee;it isincontrovertiblefact. Onthepoliticallevel,wefindthattheworsttypeofindividual,theselfseeking andmeanofspirit,hasrisentotheleadershipofEstablishmentpartiesandstructures, andinsodoing,hasguaranteedthatgovernmentthroughoutEurope,fromLisbonto LeningradandfromBelfasttoBelgrade,hasmadecorruptionandtreasonawayoflife. Politiciansandpartybosses,caringnothingforthepeopletheyclaimtorepresent,are liningtheirownpocketsbysellingouttheircountrymentopoverty,todegradationand tohostile,foreigninterests.Inourland,theThatchersandKinnocks,OwensandSteels, arejunketingaroundtheworldatourexpense,receivingtheadulationofadeceitful media,whilstBritainslowlybutsurelybleedstodeath. Ontheeconomicfront,ourpeoplearebeingconstantlyreassuredthattheworld recessionisdrawingtoaclose,yetforthosewithmemoriesthatgobackfurtherthan lastweek'sepisodeofCoronationStreet,itisafactthattheTorieshavebeenpeddling thischeapliesincetheyfirsttookofficein1979.Unemploymentisstillcontinuingto risesharplyfromoneyeartothenextandnoamountofcynicalmanipulationofthe figuresbytheCivilServicebureaucracycanhidethefactthatthelivesofnearlyfour millionpeople,ourpeople,arebeingdestroyedbydolequeuehumiliation. Itisafactthatmostorthodoxeconomistsregard10%unemploymentasthe thresholdabovewhichdiscontentandstrifedevelopbystagesintocivildisturbanceand revolutionaryupheaval;asIwritenearly14%ofourpeoplearewithoutajob. ThecountrythatNapoleondescribedearlylastcenturyas"anationof shopkeepers"nolongerexists,havinggivenwaytosupermarketsandhypermarkets, nationalandmultinationalcorporations.ThefiguresforthefinancialyearendingApril 1984revealedthatover12,500firmswentbankrupt,thehighestfigureeverinBritish history.Andthepictureforthecomingyearsisnobrighter. Thegatheringfinancialcrisis,highlightedincessantlybythemedia,hasseen decrepitoldmenfromtheI.M.F.andtheWorldBankrushingtoandfroacrosstheglobe toinaugurateyetmoretalksandwhilsttheywilieronwithoutendourcurrencyis becomingworthless.Themediademandsthatwetooshouldbeconcernedforthefateof theworldbankingsystem;thatweshouldworryaboutasystemthathasdestroyedthe livesofmillionsofEuropeans;thathascondemnedallpeoplesandculturestogrinding poverty;thathasransackedandplunderedtheresourcesandtreasuresofabeautiful creation.WearemeanttolamentthedemiseofasystemthatpossessestheMidastouch ofDeath. Thesocialimpactonourpeopleofthispoliticalandeconomicdeclinehasbeen catastrophic.Fewernewhousesmeanthatseveralmillionofourcountrymenareliving Page6

inhousesnotfitforanimals,letalonehumans;unemploymenthasseverelydistorted familylifeleadingtomoredivorces,moreabortions,morechildbattering,more suicides.Inanefforttoescapethisnightmare,Britonshaveturnedinhugenumbersto drink,drugsandgamblingas"asolution".Youngpeopledeprivedofajob,ahomeanda littleselfrespecthavesoughtananswerininnumerable'antiEstablishment'groups andcults,muchtothepleasureofourpoliticalmasters.WhilstWhiteSkinheadsare beatingthehelloutofWhiteModsorWhiteHellsAngels,theWestministertyrantsare goingabouttheirbusinessunimpededdestroyingourcountry. Butitisspirituallythatourpeoplehavesufferedthemost.Nolongerbelieving ferventlyinthesupernaturalorthedivine,theyhavebeenleftpreytothemanipulation ofconmen,quacksandlatterdayWizardsofOz.Mantobetrulyhealthymustbe balancedmateriallyandspiritually.Itisnotenoughforamanmerelytofeedhimselfor havearoofoverhishead.Hemusthaveareasontolive;hemustknowwhyfamilylifeis vital;whythebloodlinemustbeperpetuated;whytheCommonGoodoftheBritish peoplesmustbeprotected;whywemustensurethatourNationandCulturesurvives andprospers. Thismaterialandspiritualbalance,whichourforefatherspossessedintegrally, nolongerexists.Whenwelookatthegreatcathedralsthataretobefoundthroughout Europe,andbuiltmanyhundredsofyearsago,weareoverawedbytheirimmensity, theircomplexity,theirbeauty,buttheirprincipalimportancegoesbeyondmere masonryandintotherealmsofspirituality.OurforefatherspossessedStrength,Vision andFaithandthosequalitieswerelovinglyinscribedintostonethatwouldwithstand theelementsforathousandyears,andwouldspeaktotheirheirsinauthoritative, profoundtones.Ourageknowsnothingofthisplaneoflifeand,symbolically, demonstratesitsutterincomprehensionbybuildinginbreezeblocks,amaterialthat doesnotlastandisnotmeanttolast.Itepitomizesthespiritofthisage,anagewhich livesforthemomentandwheretheword"instant"reignssupreme.Asaresult,our peoplehavebecomesoulless,unhappy,frustratedandevendehumanizedinsome respects.Noonewantstohelpothersunlessthereissomethinginitforhim;noone wantstogetinvolved;noonewantstotakeresponsibility.Buteveryonewantsaneasy life;everyoneseekstheirownselfishends;everyonewantstotaketheeasywayout, andiftheeasywaymeansthatourfamily,communityornationallifewillsufferthatis heldtobeacceptable.ItiswhentheIndividualmakeshimselfavirtualgod,when everythingmustfitinwithhimandtohellwithothers,thatyouknowthatanationis sickanddying. Thesefactsandmanymorepollution,thearmsrace,diminishingnatural resourcesadduptoonefrightfulconclusion:thecultureofEuropeisgoingtodie withinourlifetime.Idonotmeanthatfor50,100,or200yearsthatwewon'tplaya veryprominentroleinworldpoliticsandthatthenwewillprobablywitnessarevival.I meanquitesimplythatasthemightycivilizationsofancientGreeceandEgypthave passedawayintothesandsoftime,nevertoreturn,sowillours.ThedeathofEurope willsignaltheendoftheWhitepeoplesforever:itwillbegoodbyetoyou,yourfamily, andyourfriends.Britainwillbecomeavague,unimportantmemory. Letusnotfoolourselves.Thefighttoreversethissituationisgoingtobe extremelyarduousandnotalittlethankless;arduousbecausetheenemiesofcivilization arenotgoingtoreleasetheirstrangleholdonusuntilweforcethemtodoso;thankless becausenoonewantstobetoldthatatidalwaveofcatastropheisloomingthat Page7

threatenslifeitself.Ourpeoplesticktheirheadsinthesandandkidthemselvesthat everythingwillbealrightintheend.Unfortunatelyforsuchpeople,weliveinareal worldwherehappyendingsarenotautomaticallywrittenintothescript.Thereareno fairygodmotherswhoaregoingtorushtoouraid,wavetheirmagicwandsandmake everythingperfectagain.IftheBritishpeoplesaretosurvive,theywillhavetofight back.Iftheyarenotwillingtodosotheyhadbetterstartprayingforaquickand mercifuldeath,fornothingelsewillavailthem.

WhenaNationrisesupardenttofightforitsfreedomandhonour,itisalwaysaminority thatreallyfiresthemultitude. TheDeclineoftheWest(OswaldSpengler) AttheforefrontofthebattleagainsttheforcesofEvilswampingtheentireglobe inanoceanofFilth,CorruptionandTreasonarethevariousNationalistmovementsof Europe.InBritaintheonlyorganizedforceistheNationalFront,butevenitmadequite fundamentalerrorsintheSeventiesaboutwhatwasnecessarytoredeemourcountry. Discussionwasalwaysaboutwhetherweshouldhaveamarchhereorthere;whether weshouldfightthiselectionorthat;whetherwecoulddosomethingtoimproveour 'image'.Thesediscussionswereaboutasusefulasarguingwhocouldhavewhat deckchairontheTitanic!Certainly,ournamebecamebetterknown,thoughother methodswouldhaveachievedthistoo;itremainsthatallourtime,moneyandenergy didnotstopthearrivalofonesingleimmigrant;itdidnotstoptheclosureofonesingle factory;itdidnotstoptherape,physicalandspiritual,ofourMotherland. Ourfailurewassimple,butcrucial.Itwasandisnotpoliciesordoctrinesor activitiesthatweneedimportantthoughthesethingsareintheoverallpolitical schemeofthingsbutaNewTypeofManwhowilllivetheNationalistwayoflifeevery day,whowillactasabeaconandaninspirationtothosefellowBritonsaroundhimwho despairofoursituation.Theotherdiscreditedpartieshavebeenofferingpoliciesand doctrinestoourpeopleforgenerations,buttowhateffect?TotheaverageBriton,why shouldtheNFhavebeenanydifferentfromtheothers?Ifwearetosucceedwemust striketotheheartofthematter:ourpeopleneedasanexamplesomeonewhopractices whathepreaches.ThatexamplewecallthePoliticalSoldier. JustwhatisthePoliticalSoldier? IfwelookatthehighestperiodsofEuropeanhistory,wecaneasilyidentifythe typeofmenwhoembodyorexpressthespiritthatournationsodesperatelyneeds. InancientGreecethereweretheSpartans,anaustere,highlydisciplinedpeople whohavegonedowninhistorymainlybecauseoftheirheroicstandatthebaffleof Thermopylae.Itwasherethat300Spartans,ledbytheirWarriorKing,Leonidas,took on100,000PersiantroopsundertheEmperorDarius;farfromcringinginfearatsuch enormousoddstheSpartansproudlysangtheirbattleanthem,TheSongofCastor,and thendiedtoamaninacrucibleoffireandblood.AlthoughtheSpartanslost,itisthey thatHistoryremembers. InancientRome,itwastheRomancenturionwhosemilitaryskillsand commitmenttoEternalRome,tothePaxRomana,ledhimtobuildoneofthefinest,well orderedempiresinworldhistoryand,asaconsequence,leftussomuchtocherishin ourheritage. InmedievalEuropetherewastheChristianCrusaderwhosedevotiontothe idealsofAscetismandChivalrysoembodiedEurope,EastandWest,thateventoday 'knightlyconduct'isregardedasahighformofpraise.Theseknights,asupranational communitydrawnfromoneculture,weredescribedbyPopeUrbanIIasthose"readyto Page9

hastenwhereverwarerupts,bringingtoitthefuryoftheirarmsinordertodefend HonourandJustice." InourcenturyperhapsthemostoutstandingexampleofPoliticalSoldierywas theRumanianIronGuard,theLegionaryMovement,foundedandmouldedbythegenius ofCorneliuCodreanu.Thespiritthatthismovementgeneratedwassostrong,so pervasive,thatinitsbrief15yearsofexistenceitinfectedanentirepeople.Eventoday theCommunistauthoritiesdenouncetheLegionaries,sofrightenedaretheybyits spiritualandinspirationalpowerapowerthatgrowsasthedrudgeryofMarxist EasternEuropekillseverythingittouches. ButEuropedoesnothaveamonopolyonPoliticalSoldiersandallpeoplesand cultureshavethepotentialtoproducethistypeofman,eachfittedtohispeculiar circumstances.TakeforexampletheIslamicRevolutionaryGuardsintheIranofthe Mullahs.Itisnotnecessarytoagreewithanyoralloftheiraimstoappreciateand respecttheircourage.TheirbeliefintheirCauseissostrongthattheywillrunthrough minefieldsunarmedtoattackenemypositions;theiridealsaresoallconsumingthat theywilldrivetruckbombsintoenemycampsknowingfullwellthatdeathisinevitable. Whethertheyarerightorwrongisnotatissue,butitisclearthatthispower,this contemptfordeath,isthestuffofwhichvictoriesaremade.Thispowerdrovethe YankeewarmachineoutoftheLebanonwhilstU.S.troopswerefightingforjob security,awagepacketandapension,theiropponentsintheRevolutionaryGuards werefightingforanIdeal,anindependentIranianIran.Wemustlearnthatthepowerof Idealismisbeyondcalculation. WhenwelookatthefewexamplesthatIhavecited,onethingwillbe immediatelyobvioustomostreaderstowit,thatallofthemarewarriors,militarymen. However,itwouldbeutterlywrongtobelievethatthisaspect,themilitary,isthemost importantaspect,orevenoneofthemostimportantaspects.Thecommondenominator thatallowsallofthesementobeputinthesamecategory,despitetheirmanifest differences,isthefactthattheywereinspiredby'aspiritualandreligiousidealthat totallydominatedtheirlives.NothingcamebetweenthemandtheIdeal.Theywere willingtosacrificeanythingandeverythingforthevictoryoftheirIdeal.If,forsome reason,theirCausehadbeendeniedtothemtheirliveswouldhaveceasedtohave meaning,tohaveanyimportancewhatever.Theywerefinewarriorsbecauseaflame burnedwithin,afirethatcouldonlybeextinguishedwhentheydrewtheirfinal,mortal breath.Itwasaflamethattheirenemiesfrequentlydidnotpossessorunderstand,but whichtheyfearedandrespected.Itisthatflame,thatburningspirit,whichwemust rekindleifourCultureistohaveanyfutureworthyofthename.Ifthisprovestobe beyondourabilitiesthenallourmaterialachievements,ourscienceandtechnology,our intellectualgrandeurwillstandrevealedasperfectlyuseless,forthemostimportant thinginlifeistheWilltolive.IfthisWillisabsentinourpeople,noscientistandno gadgetrywillsaveus. ItisthetaskofthePoliticalSoldiertopromotetheWilltolivebyrevealingthe truenatureoflifeasopposedtothematerialistnightmareofthiscenturywhichis mistakenlytakentobe"life"andbylivingthislife.InordertodothisthePolitical SoldiermustundergoaSpiritualRevolution,aninnerrevolutionwhichguides,directs andpervadeshislife.WhenthishasbeenachievedsubstantivelythePoliticalSoldier willjudgeallhisactionsaccordingtowhetherornottheyadvancetheCause.Hewillbe themanwhodoesnotsay:"Whatisinitforme?"butthemanwhosays:"WhatcanIdo Page10

tohelp?"ForthistypeofMancertainwordswillholdthekeytotheverymeaningofLife itself:Honour,Justice,SelfRespect,Honesty,Faith,Humility,Compassion,Love. 3.OPPOSITIONTOMATERIALISM.

6.RACIALANDCULTURALDIVERSITY.

8.THEMENACEOFBANKERDOM.

viability",asthoughMoneywasthesolestandardofimportanceinallthecrucial questionsofLife.Inotherwords,Money,whichwasoriginallynomorethanauseful meansoffacilitatinglifeinanincreasinglycomplexsociety,hascometobetheJudgeof allthingsinLifeandSociety.SuchaperversionofTrueOrderhas,notsurprisingly, wroughtmiseryandhorroronagrotesquescale:cynicallyprovokedwars;famines; pollution;genocide;grindingpoverty;socialmanipulation; crassconsumerism;youthsuicide;widespreadalcoholism; disintegratingfamilies.TheThirdPositionassertsthatMoney isnothingmorethanalowlyservantofManandSociety,a servantthatmustbecompelledtoworkfortheCommonGood ofall,bothwithinandbetweennations.Itfurtherassertsthat sincethemodernBankingSystemispractisingthemost refinedusurytheworldhaseverknown,itfollowsthatwewill campaignforitsdestruction,andreplaceitwithasocial bankingsystembasedonSoundMoney.Asaresult,alldebt,beitdomestic,nationalor international,whichspringsfromusurywillbecancelledwithoutcompensation,andthe bankownerswillbecompelledtomakerestitutiontotheirunfortunatevictims.The ThirdPositionbelievesthatInternationalFinanceisoneofthegreatestevilsofthe modernworld,andthusisintrinsicallyhostiletotheprogrammeoftheThirdPosition.
