5. FUNCTIONAL DESCRIPTION
32
6. FUNCTION
The Drr VistaCam2 consists of a base unit and handset with IFC (Iris Focus Control) Optic. The camera electronics are housed vin the base unit, the image sensor in the handset. The two parts are connected by a cable. The IFC Optic is placed on the handset via the rapid release catch. The new IFC Optic is suitable for macro and intraoral as well as for extraoral imaging. From macro to intraoral, the IFC Optic presents a wide depth of field. In the extraoral area the IFC Optic has good lighting. It is, therefore, optimally suitable for all areas of application. The lighting system is patent-protected. The image is taken by the IFC Optic, passed to the image sensor in the handset and from there converted to an electrical signal. This signal is transmitted to the camera electronic via the camera cable and converted to a video signal. The video cable conveys the video signal to the attached image viewer. The following appliances may be connected for image viewing, e. g. video monitor, video printer + video monitor, PC with video board + monitor, (conforming to section 1.5 Using peripheral devices). The light is transmitted from a halogen cold light source in the base unit via a light carrier in the cable to the IFC Optic. The white balance and the color control of the appliance, regardless of the light setting, are set at 3400K. In order to achieve the optimal colour recording the white balance is factory-set to cold halogen lighting conditions. When taking extra-oral images (portrait) there is usually a mixed lighting (integrated lamp + daylight + OP-lamp). This mixed lighting means that there will not be a true color reproduction. For this reason the High Professional model features a button for adjusting the white balance (see section 10.3). The lighting is switched on as soon as the handset is removed from the holder. It can be switched off at the base unit.

INSTALLATION 7. MOUNTING
7.1 Room requirements
The room temperature must not fall below + 10 C in winter and in the summer must not rise above + 40 C.
7.3 Installation
Unpack all parts Place the appliance in position The VistaCam2 must be placed on a flat working surface The VistaCam2 must not be placed near basins or spittoons. No spray water should reach the appliance. When mounting on a wall or column the electrical connections must be pointing downwards. Locate the appliance in such a way as to guarantee air circulation around it. The ventilation slits on the floor of the appliance must not be covered over (i.e. do not place on a towel or anything similar). The distance must be at least 10 cm from the appliance.

Only use the power cable supplied by Drr. Plug the power cable (11) in on the rear of the appliance, power socket (9) and to the mains supply
37
Switch on appliance power switch Green LED lights when on. Switch on the integrated lighting Yellow LED lights when on. Switch on image viewing appliance. .
The appliance is now ready for use and an image should be visible on the image viewing appliance.

Slightly lift the white edge of the sheath and carefully slide the IFC optic in. Once the tip of the optic is as far in as possible, stretch the sheath 2-3 mm further so that the sheath is tightly pressed against the sides of the handset.
9
39
Using the tips of the fingers very carefully press the sheath against the optic to remove any air bubbles that may be present
10
Hold the white edge of the sheath firmly and carefully pull off the plastic packaging in the direction of the IFC Optic Carefully pull off the paper packaging in the direction of the handset
11
The optical window in the sheath should lie exactly over the optical window of the IFC Optic. After use, peel the sheath off carefully and dispose of as appropriate. Careless removal of the sheath, the IFC Optic may be pulled from the handset, and could fall to the floor and be damaged. Extraoral images can be taken without the need for a sheath and with lighting turned off.

13
14
Switch off the lighting after each use, i.e. replace the handset into the holder. This will both protect and improve the life of the high quality lamp. In cases of high contrast where important areas suffer over-exposure, it is possible with the model High Professional to activate a spot contrast measurement. Press the switch (yellow LED lights). This highlights a smaller window in the center of the image for contrast again measurement. Pressing the switch returns to the complete image (complete monitor) For mixed light images (i.e. integrated lighting+daylight+OP-Lamp) a white balance procedure should be carried out. Turn IFC Optic adjusting ring to position Point the IFC Optic towards a blank white piece of paper Press the switch white balance (appliance learns the color white) 41
15
For extraoral images it is advisable to switch off the integrated lighting at the switch and/or to take images without the sheath. This prevents milky images. Only clean the handset with special cloths e.g. FD 350 disinfectant wipes.

10.5 Operation Freeze Frame (only available with Professional Freeze and High Professional Freeze)
16
16 The models Professional Freeze and High 17 Professional Freeze feature a 4-fold image memory activated via a foot switch. On switching on the appliance the Live-Mode is activated. The left panel (15) enables one to switch to freeze frame or back to original (live) mode. The right panel (17) allows one to select one of the four freeze frames. Alternatively single images can be individually altered or reloaded using the left panel (15). The image position from 1 to 4 is shown by the white lines displayed top left on the screen. Pressing the middle panel (16) or turning the appliance off deletes all images.
11. CLEANING
Remove the sheath after every patient.
43
12. TRANSPORT
Transport of the VistaCam2 when mounted on the VistaCart or similar trolley
For safety reasons the appliance should be disconnected from all power even when moved only short distances! Before using the appliance plug in the machine correctly! Turn off the machine at the power switch Unplug from the mains supply Place handset in holder For models with foot switch (Freeze Module) unplug the foot switch from the appliance or PC Push the trolley to the appropriate treatment room, connect foot switch (if relevant), plug unit into the mains supply During transport take care that the cables do not get caught, e.g. cables are not pulled out of sockets or the handset is pulled from the holder.

As the camera delivers a Standard Video Signal, certain norms of television technology are observed. Television pictures consist of 2 halfpictures or frames. Between these two half-frames there is a time delay of 20 milliseconds. These two half-frames are then matched via the monitor so producing a single picture (frame). If there is movement between the taking of the two images, then a blurred image must result.
Attempt to hold steady (practice), if necessary use a support Process only half a frame (see the operating instructions for the video printer or the handbook to the video signal-digital-board (Framegrabber) of the Computer (section: Frame /Field)
