Meadows Supported Moratorium on Any New Regulations In January 2012, Meadows supported a moratorium on any new regulations. Meadows said, the private sector is the only one I know of that creates jobs. I've never found a job that's created on the governmental basis, other than regulatory jobs which right now makes up almost 20% of what we are from a corporate standpoint to create incentives, we can make sure that we put a moratorium on any new regulatory law, put sunset provisions on regulation, where the regulators have to come back in and justify it again. But what I think we've got to do is make sure that we created an environment where truly government is not looked to as the job creator. [Asheville TEAPAC, 1/28/12] Patterson Supported Auditing The Federal Reserve In January 2012, Patterson supported auditing the federal reserve. In February 2012, Hunt said that his District Attorneys office found no reason to pursue a criminal investigation against Henderson County Sheriff Rick Davis in spite of rumors, speculation and suspicions about his conduct. Davis, sheriff since 2006, announced in November 2011 that he had bipolar disorder that sometimes caused him to behave erratically. He faced charges related to alleged misconduct and a legal settlement with a female employment. Hunt Supported the Mack Penny Plan In January 2012, Hunt supported the Mack Penny Plan to bring deficit spending to zero over a 6 year period. Hunt said, I am an enthusiast of the Mack Penny Plan, which is a plan that would scale down deficit spending to a zero deficit level over a period of 6 years. The Mack in that phrase is Connie Mack the 4th, who was a congressman from Florida, and I would urge you to get on the Internet and take a look at the Mack Penny Plan. It is a six-year schedule of gradual decline until we get to zero, balance of 0 deficit spending. I think that can be reduced to 3 or 4 years, rather than a six-year schedule drop off. But that is, if we enact the Mack Penny Plan, that will instantly send the message to the private sector, which has been waiting for that sign, that will send an instant message to them that they can start hiring. There are trillions of dollars being held back by the private sector that are ready to be used for job creation.

Hunt Said Debt Was Slavery In January 2012, Hunt equated debt to slavery. Hunt said, It is a free-market economy that provides equal opportunity, and that's the key phrase, but I would also respectfully point out to you the debt when it's all-encompassing, like ours currently in this country, is slavery. And we are being enslaved by those people who have run up the debt. Republicans and Democrats. And that is got to be addressed if we are going to continue to be a free people. [Asheville

Meadows Called for Cuts to Entitlement Programs In January 2012, Meadows called for cuts to entitlement programs. Meadows said, Do we cut taxes or do we cut spending is that enough? It is going to also require Medicare, Medicaid reform as we look at it. Part of what we have done is we have ended up being a society that once we get hooked on something we love to keep it. It is going to be painful as American citizens, what we are we are going to what is going to cost us something we're going to have to do that so we are all going to have to sacrifice and try to make real cuts. In the entitlement programs as well.

Eichenbaum Supported States Right for Nullification, Supported Cutting Departments of Agriculture, Education
12
In January 2012, Eichenbaum supported states rights for nullification. Eichenbaum said, I'm a big fan of nullification. I believe it's time for the states to stand up and start saying no to the federal government. Our founding fathers are big fans of nullification, and during the first 50 to 60 years of our union, the states are very active in going against the federal government. I think that the laws, rules, regulations that obviate the fourth amendment are things that we must fight. It started with RICO, Patriot Act, Warner act, the NDAA and the Expatriation Act are all things that the states should be sending up and attempted to nullify. But why stop there. There are a lot of other things that need to be nullified and done away with under the tenth amendment. The Department of Education, the department of Agriculture. These are all instances under which the federal government has gone way beyond the bounds of the Constitution, and is the kind of things that we need to do without. [Asheville TEAPAC,

Meadows Opposed Spending on San Joaquin River In January 2012, Meadows opposed spending on the San Joaquin River in southern California. Meadows said, The San Joaquin River in South California, California paid to move the San Joaquin River over to irrigate some stuff. They found out that there is possibly 500 salmon that are having a difficult time surviving. And so they decided that the federal government, you and I, should move back to where it originally was. And our current Congressman voted for this and it comes at the cost of $22 million per fish. Now I am an avid hunter and fisherman, but you know what when you spend this $22 million to save fish no matter how wonderful they are - It shouldn't be our responsibility, it should be the state of California's responsibility. [McDowell County GOP Event, 1/26/12] Meadows Said Environmentalists Tried to Control Property Rights In January 2012, Meadows said that environmentalists were trying to take control of property rights. Meadows said, We're using it under a sustainable development mentality, but really we've got to do, it's more about environmentalists coming in and trying to take control of our property rights and our ability to make decisions so we have got to do is make sure that not only does that not ratified, but we make sure that Congress doesn't allow that funding. Most of the funding right now is actually happening more on a local and state level. As you look at it, and if you go around what you will find is a lot of that invades our property rights and I would be strongly against that kind of legislation. [Asheville TEAPAC, 1/28/12] Patterson Supported Oil Drilling, Coal Mining, Nuclear Power In January 2012, Patterson supported domestic sources of energy. In January 2012, Patterson called to limit czar positions. Patterson said, The 1st thing I would do is limit all czar positions. Just get rid of them. Any function moving into the panel, gosh darn it. Can't think of the name. Get rid of all of czar positions. Get rid of the EPA. And move it into the commerce department- or into the Department of Interior. Any function that's necessary. I would get rid of the Department of Education. And move that back to the states. And then anything the Justice Department would enforce all laws on education that are necessary from the federal. I would get every department into the cabinet positions, and I would tell the cabinet positions that you need to reduce your force, your labor, your employees by one third. All cabinet positions. And then I would say that people you bring it to run those Cabinet positions need to pay them very well and they will figure out how to get that done. You put it on them to do it. And that is how you reduce the cost of government. And that will start cutting down our debt. [Asheville TEAPAC, 1/28/12] Patterson Said it Was not In Mexican Culture to Live Up to Accord of NAFTA In January 2012, Patterson said that is not in Mexican culture to live up to the accord of NAFTA. Patterson said, Well one of the things they did in NAFTA, was demand that, and this is one of the things that was really important to them was to demand that they live by our EPA standards. Any businessman it's been down there knows that Mexicans are not going to do that. This is not their culture. It's not that they lied, or they cheat, or they steal, or anything like that, they're good businessman, but it is not in their culture to live up to the accord of NAFTA comment they didn't. If NAFTA was such a good deal, how come so many Mexicans are still coming here to America. It was not a good deal for them. Thank you.

[McDowell County GOP Event, 1/26/12] Meadows Criticized Use of Commerce Clause to Expand Government
14
In January 2012, Meadows criticized the use of the commerce clause to expand government. Meadows said, We've used the commerce clause over and over again to expand. Whether it education, whether it be commerce from the standpoint of being able to control subsidies, and what we've got to do is rein that back. One of the problems is years and years of jurisprudence, from the standpoint of the Constitution. And what we've got is case law over and over and over again, people continue to look to and justify further actions. Liberal justices will use that over and over again to come in and try to make sure that we have literally just a grab for power on federal level. [Asheville TEAPAC, 1/28/12]
Patterson Called NDAA Violation of Civil Rights In January 2012, Patterson called the National Defense Authorization Act a violation of civil rights. Patterson said, It is a violation of our, a lot of our civil rights here, on the local level as far as the Fifth Amendment, or Fourth Amendment, search and seizure and that type of thing. Very disturbing about how we've lost our rights to privacy. Our due process, habeas corpus. This is something there really needs to be rolled back and turned around. They've gone too far. With this Defense Act, here in our, on our level. Americans that are being killed is overseas, just murdered is wrong. And that needs to be changed. We just need to roll it back. The emergency is overseas, it is not here right now. And they are getting into us on this kind of thing. Is that the area you're talking about? [Asheville TEAPAC, 1/28/12]

Meadows Said Immigrants Wouldnt Be Coming If There were No Job Opportunities In January 2012, Meadows said that immigrants would not be coming if there were not job opportunities. Meadows said, You know, if there weren't jobs here, they wouldn't be coming here. The fact is we live in the greatest land in the world. So no matter if there is, we see it as awful times, they see it as great times. Compared to where they are, they're going to always come unless we protect the borders so that's what I think we need to do. [Asheville TEAPAC, 1/28/12] Meadows Supported Border Fences, Opposed Amnesty In January 2012, Meadows supported border fences and opposed amnesty. Meadows said, We have to, I believe, fence it, protect it, verify them, and deport them. I am not for amnesty, I believe that what we've got to do is protect our borders. When in modern history would you ever have thought the traveling through parts of Texas and Arizona that were off-limits to American citizens, it's just wrong. We've got to do something. If we can find Osama bin Laden in the middle of the Middle East, certainly we can protect our borders. So we have got to make sure that we protect our borders, close off the infiltration, then make sure that we verify who they are and work on it. When asked about how the deportation process would work, Meadows said, How deporting them, well we send them back to Mexico. [Asheville TEAPAC, 1/28/12] Patterson Said If Chinese Could Build Great Wall 2000 Years Ago, U.S. Can Build Border Fence In January 2012, Patterson supported building a border fence and opposed amnesty. Patterson said, Now Rick Perry said we cannot build a wall across Texas. Well that's nuts, the Chinese built the wall that his 5000 miles long. And they did it 2000 years ago. If the Chinese can do it we can do it. I would employ, I would disperse, dispatch the National Guard to stand guard on our border. That is the reason for being, is to defend our borders. Against invasion.
17
Patterson also said, People need to know that we are going to defend our borders and not let illegals in. Of any kind. Bad or good. And then we need to take away the economic incentive for them to be here. Including the education. Take away the reason for being here.[Asheville TEAPAC, 1/28/12]

"In college, I served as the president of a Christian organization that was banned from campus by a liberal administration. I publicly fought this attack on our faith, and the group was quickly reinstated. Now with President Obama assaulting the Catholic Church and radical atheist groups attacking the display of the Ten Commandments, the time has come to take a stand once again. "The Ten Commandments are the governing principles and foundation of our most basic laws and rights. I believe there is no better place to display this sacred document than in a city hall or a courthouse. Why should we disregard the wishes of the citizens of Newland in order to appease an atheist special-interest group based hundreds of miles away in another state? I will proudly stand with the people of Newland in defense of the Ten Commandments," said Wingield. [maconnews.com, 2/16/12] Patterson Stressed Increasing Activity to Create Jobs In January 2012, Patterson said that cutting spending, reducing the size of government, and reducing regulations was not enough to create jobs and said activity creates jobs. Patterson said, Many people say that cutting taxes, cutting government spending, reducing the size of government, reducing regulation will create jobs. Well, I'm a manufacturer and I will tell you right now if you tax cut my taxes to 0, I'm not going to hire anybody. Because I don't have anything for them to do. Everything I need to be done is being done. These are all very important steps in establishing a firm foundation on which to build an economy. These steps alone will not do it. So what creates jobs? Activity. And I don't mean just giving people money and letting them drive up and down the street and spend it. That is what the stimulus bill did 3 years ago, $787 billion. And when that money is gone, it is gone.

[YouTube, uploaded 3/08/12] Hunt Thanked Senator Davis for His Opposition to the 2009 Racial Justice Act In December 2011, Jeff Hunt thanked Senator Davis for being tough on crime and specifically praised Davis for standing up against a racial percentage bill for death penalty cases.
Hunt
was referring to the 2009 racial justice act, a law that allows judges to analyze statistics when hearing complaints from death row inmates and other prisoners who argue that racial bias influenced their sentences [] All 44 elected District Attorneys in the state oppose the 2009 Racial Justice Act, according to Davis. Critics of the act state that 57 death row inmates who have used the act to appeal their sentences since 2009 are Caucasian. Furthermore, Senator Davis and the 44 District Attorneys suggest that the statistical studies used by judges as a result of the racial justice act are skewed due to the small sample size of death row inmates in the state; North Carolina currently has currently has 158 inmates on death row. Patterson Supported Fair Tax In January 2012, Patterson said that he supported the fair tax when talking about fiscal responsibility. Patterson said, And I'm talking about fiscal responsibility, reducing the size of government, reducing regulations, getting a fair tax out there and get all social engineering out of our tax code, that's what's convoluting it so much. Patterson later said, One of the proposals in tax reform is the fair tax. Which could be a very good way to get control back to the states. Do you realize that under our sales tax code that all money goes to the states and then to the federal government? If we passed a fair tax or something like that, all monies would go to the state and then to the government. And that would give state control of our tax code and our tax system, and the money that's going to the federal government. And a way to control government spending. We can withhold the money from the federal government. One of the things that we have come up with, I want to remember this is, a 20/20 plan [] Now all of them have all kinds of different numbers, but our 20/20 plan really is for job growth and economic growth, and as we look at this, it starts out with making sure that we take corporate income taxes and reduce it to 20% []We also need to put a moratorium on new regulations and reduce those, and until we reduce at about 20%, we don't pass any more regulatory law until they've done that. The other thing, the next 20 that we have got is to make sure that we become less dependent on foreign oil. Part of our problem is, and economics, is truly an energy problem []So we need to make sure of is that we reduce our foreign dependency on oil by 20% for the year 2020. Now what is that going to require? We are going to have to start drilling, and we're going to have to drill, and that we are also going to have to do is explore for natural gas. Now what we do is, some people say, well gosh that is giving a tax break to all of the wealthy. Will let me give you an example, GE made $14 billion last year. And out of the $14 billion, you know how much tax? Zero. Alright why was that? $9 billion of it was overseas, and they are just leaving it there. Another 5 billion of it was subsidized with the silver energy in terms of green, renewable energy. So they paid zero taxes on $14 billion, and so we need to do is make sure that there is incentive for them to bring that money that they are leaving over in Europe back and create American jobs.
