Description

Are you noticing the cultural shift going on in hair right now?

Woman around the world are beginning to embrace their natural textured hair again, and this is seeing the rise of the dry haircutting technique. Leading the way specialising in this niche of haircutting is Sydney based hairdresser, Tara Walker, owner of her independent salon business, Mousey Browne. In todays podcast we learn all about the techniques of dry haircutting, and why you need to be offering this service to your clients. If you don't, then you could be left behind from your competitors!

As someone who specialises in dry haircutting, Tara has made a name for herself in the curly hair community. She is known for creating killer haircuts on all hair types, especially curly hair. I believe cutting hair this way is like Marmite: you either love it or hate it. But in talking to Tara today, I'm excited and converted to the endless creative possibilities dry haircutting can give us, and the revenue this could also bring to our hairdressing businesses. It can't be ignored ... love it or hate it!

At the age of 14, armed with a pair of her mum's old hairdressing scissors, a lot of enthusiasm and zero training, Tara started cutting her Dad’s hair in her parent’s garage.  Working in high-end salons, boutique salons and barber shops, both nationally and internationally, Tara moved back to Sydney in 2013 and started her very own hair cutting shop called Mousey Browne, which is located in the cool inner-city suburb of Surry Hills, Sydney.

The Mousey Browne concept is all about “minimum fuss, maximum impact hair – that you know how to wear”.

Tara is now passing on her skills to the hairdressing community – something she offers loads of in todays episode. She hosts dry hair cutting education events and look-and-learns sessions and hands on workshops from her salon and in other salons around Australia. As she says: “The trick to cutting curly hair is… You need to create enough organised chaos, so that the curls can find a home.”

This is proper good episode that I know you're going to enjoy learning from, so please reach out a let me know what you think to Tara's philosophy of dry haircutting.
