Crossing Routes

The crossing routes are our number one drop back passing scheme. The beauty of this route is that it is and all-purpose route that and can be run vs. any coverage. It has a series of rules that make execution easy and simple to teach. This route gives the coach the flexibility to cross any player making this one play seem like dozens. This concept is limited only by ones imagination This route is a hot concept, so teams that blitz can be quickly neutralized.

Reasons to Run Xing Routes

Blitz Control Stop hard scraping linebackers Easy read for the Quarterback Run from any formation Great compliment to the Jet sweep RAC yardage Red Zone Pass

XING ROUTE RULES

Quarterback The Quarterback will execute a five-step drop. As he drops he will read the front side linebacker. The linebacker will do one of three things. 1. The linebacker will drop to his hook zone. 2. The linebacker will blitz. 3. The linebacker will jump the crosser. Eyes on the front side linebacker. Linebacker jumps the crosser he will continue his drop and focus his eyes immediately on the backside linebacker. If the front side linebacker blitzes, throw to the crosser. The Quarterbacks second read is to the backside linebacker. If the backside linebacker blitzes or drops to the hook zone throw to the crosser. If the backside linebacker jumps the crosser throw to the dig that is 10 yard deep almost directly in front of you.

The Crossing Receiver

The crosser must run for the hands of the first adjacent lineman. Climb no deeper than 3 yards until you pass the front side linebacker. The crosser can climb to 5-yard depth. The front side linebacker blitzes the crosser must run into the vacated hole

Crossing from and outside alignment

If the crosser is crossing from and outside position he must let the inside receiver go first, then rub shoulder to shoulder coming underneath the inside receiver. In order for the outside receiver to clear the inside receiver he must take a jab step out allowing the inside man to clear. By rubbing shoulder to shoulder the receiver creates a natural pick making man coverage extremely difficult.

Zone or Man

Man- receiver running the dig should run away from the defender to the sideline. Zone CV3 Vs. three deep zones the receiver running the dig will eye the linebackers and sit down between the linebacker drops Zone CV2 Vs Two deep zone the receiver running the dig will eye the linebacker the same as in CV3

The Dig

Player that runs the dig is the first receiver past the center away from the crosser. Inside release then get vertical for ten yards At ten yards the dig receiver will chop his feet and break a hard in pattern. Receiver will determine whether the defense is zone or man.

The Fullback
The fullback will run the flare away from the crossers alignment Drop step to gain depth, and run to the feet of the widest receiver. This flare will put the outside linebacker or strong safety in conflict.

The deep players

The receiver to the side of the crosser will run the Go route. The receiver away from the crosser will run down the near hash.
