DYAD SHARING

Have you experienced a day

without food and water? If you have, describe what happened. If you have not, describe what you imagine will happen to you if you had this experience.
How important is food and

water in our daily life?

We need food and water to nourish our body and to live.

We gain strength and energy to do physical tasks.

Jesus gives us the Eucharist in order to provide the same nourishment for our soul. In the Eucharist, Jesus gives us spiritual strength to grow in virtues and to live a spiritual life.

The Holy Eucharist is the

sacrament of Christs Body and Blood.

It is also a unique and

special sacrament? Why?

It is also a unique and

US the Receiver

The Holy Eucharist completes our initiation into the Church, for by receiving the Eucharist, those who have been baptized and confirmed are fully united in the Body of Christ (CFC 1666).

When did Jesus institute the Holy Eucharist?

The Eucharist was instituted by Christ. He established the Eucharist at the Last Supper, the night before he died on the Cross (CFC 1677).

Jesus and His apostles, Jews as they were, celebrated the most important Jewish feast. They went to Jerusalem to celebrate Passover.

What is this Passover celebration or Pasch?

This celebration celebrates and reminds the Jews of Gods great love for them. God helped them to be free from their slavery in Egypt.

Jesus gave the Passover a new meaning during the Last Supper.

LET US COMPARE THE PASSOVER OF THE ISRAELITES and the LAST SUPPER OF JESUS

1. Why are they special events?

2. The Sacrifice offered in the two events

3. Was there a kind of gathering among the people involved?

4. What bread did they eat during each occasion?

5. What did they drink during each occasion?

Is there ANY meanings to them?

THE THREE THINGS THAT WE DO IN THE HOLY MASS:

WE REMEMBER. WE SHARE IN A MEAL. WE OFFER A SACRIFICE.

THE EUCHARIST AS A MEMORIAL

Jesus told the apostles to do this in memory of me (Luke 22:19). By gathering and breaking bread, we are remembering Jesus.

The Eucharist is different from other memorials. It is much more that just remembering past events. In the Eucharist, Jesus is really present.

THE EUCHARIST AS A MEAL

Jesus gave us the Eucharist. He and His friends were eating and celebrating together. In the Eucharist, we share in a meal. The Body and Blood of Christ nourish us.

For my flesh is true food and my blood is true drink. Whoever eats my flesh and drinks my blood remains in me and I in him. John 6:55-56

The Holy Mass is a meal, a sacred meal. Together with our family and friends we gather around the table of the Lord. Together, we share in the same food, the Body and Blood of Eucharist.

THE EUCHARIST AS A SACRIFICE

What is a sacrifice? What makes an action an act of sacrifice?

Every time we celebrate the Holy Mass, we remember not only Jesuss giving of Himself in the Bread and Wine, but of His sacrifice of death so others may live.

We are reminded and called to follow on the same sacrifice. This sacrifice means that we should be able consider first the good and welfare of others before our own.

We Respond
What does Jesus call us to do?

Regular attendance and active participation in the Holy Mass

Do simple acts of sacrifices for others

BIG QUESTIONS
What makes the Holy Eucharist a special

and unique sacrament? How is the Passover the same with or different from the Last Supper? Why is the Holy Eucharist a memorial, sacred meal and sacrifice? Why is Jesus the Bread of Life? Is it still important to receive the Bread of Life? Why or why not?

Closing Prayer
Jesus, the Bread of Life, be with us in our daily lives. Help us so that we can also do our own sacrifices in our lives. We know that we can only perform little sacrifices. However, with sincerity and love, these little acts are enough to show our love for others. Amen.
