AMPS CONTROL SYSTEM

AMPS CONTROL SYSTEM

AMPS was designed as voice only system

Mobile and Base Identification

Mobile identification number (MIN) - is stored in the number assignment module(NAM) in two phone. MIN the 10 digit phone number for the mobile phone(area code plus 7 digit local number). Roamer a cellular costumer using a network other than the subscribers local cellular network.

ELECTRONIC SERIAL NUMBER (ESN)

Identification number A unique 32 bit number assigned to the phone at the factory It is often stored in EPROM( erasable programmable read-only memory chip) that can be reprogrammed or replaced by persons with the right equipment and knowledge.

STATION CLASS MARK (SCM)

Which identifies its maximum transmitter power level.

There are three power classes corresponding to phones permanently installed in a vehicle transportable bag phones and hand held phones.

The maximum power levels specified as ERP( effective radiated power with respect to a half wave dipole.

Class I (mobile) +6 dBW (4W) Class II (transportable) +2 dBW (1.6W) Class III (portable) -2 dBW (600 mW)

Mobile transmitter power - is controlled by the land station in 4 d13 increments with lowest power level being -22 dBW (6.3 mW) ERP. System identification number(SID) this identifying number of the cellular system enables the mobile phone to determine whether it is communicating with its home system of roaming. Digital color code(DCC) signal transmitted by a cell site to identify that site to the mobile user.

TURNING ON A PHONE

CONTROL CHANNELS
Paging channels are control channels that carry information about calls that the system is trying to place to mobiles. If someone is calling the mobile, its number will be transmitted by the paging channel. Access channel used for the complementary function of a mobile originated call to respond to a paging signal

Forward channel communication from a cell site or repeater to the mobile unit. Reverse channel communication channel from mobile station to base station.

ORIGINATING A CALL

CONTROL MOBILE ATTENUATION CODE (CMAC)

Information sent by the base station in a cellular radio system to set the power level of the mobile transmitter.

SUPERVISORY AUDIO TONE (SAT)

In the amps system, a sine wave above the voice frequency range transmitted on the voice channel along with the voice used by the base station to detect loss of signal.

There are possible 10 KHz signaling tone frequencies above the (ST) may also be voice band. transmitted on the voice channel during a call. It is used to 5470 Hz signal handoffs to 6000 Hz another cell and the 6030 Hz termination of the cell.

RECEIVING A CALL
Incoming call is routed by the network to the cell where the mobile last identified itself. When the mobile receives the traffic channel assignment from the network( the MSC via the base station), it proceeds to that channel and produces an audible ringing tone for the subscriber. From this point forward, all further signaling between the system and the mobile is conducted in band.

HAND OFFS
This always involves a change in channel since to avoid co-channel interference the same channels are never used in adjacent cells.

BLANK AND BURST SIGNALING

In cellular communication, interrupting the voice channel to send control information.
