Automatic Actuator Circuit

The basic circuit diagram for the connection of the motor, switch and 9V battery is shown below. A 3-pole switch has been included in the kit but it may be used simply as a Single Pole Single Throw (SPST) switch as shown below.

Base And Axles

The basic layout of the base is shown below. The minimum dimensions of the base must be as follows. Overall Length : 12 inches Width : 9 inches (Excluding Wheels)

Mild Steel Rod

Mild steel, also called plain-carbon steel, is the most common form of steel because its price is relatively low while it provides material properties that are acceptable for many applications. Mild steel contains 0.160.29% carbon, making it malleable and ductile, but it cannot be hardened by heat treatment. Mild steel has a relatively low tensile strength. Length of Rod Provided : 6 ft

Rear Axle With Crank

The purpose of this crank is to convert the reciprocating motion of the connecting rod into the rotary motion of the rear axle.

Motor Shaft With Crank

The purpose of this crank is to convert the rotary motion of the motor shaft to reciprocating motion of the actuating arm.

Bearings

A ball bearing is a type of rolling-element bearing that uses balls to maintain the separation between the bearing races. The purpose of a ball bearing is to reduce rotational friction and support radial and axial loads. It achieves this by using at least two races to contain the balls and transmit the loads through the balls. In most applications, one race is stationary and the other is attached to the rotating assembly (like a hub or shaft). As one of the bearing races rotates it causes the balls to rotate as well. Because the balls are rolling they have a much lower coefficient of friction than if two flat surfaces were sliding against each other.

Problem Statement
1. The first stage is a straight-up drag race. Your Pump Wagons must travel along a flat arrow-straight track of length 14ft from start to finish. Time taken and lateral deviation from the straight line joining the start and finish points will be measured. This is a test of the following properties. The speed your Pump Wagon is capable of. This is an indication of the speed transmission efficiency of your system of linkages. The stability of your Pump Wagon. [30 Points]

2. The second test will be a surprise. It will ,however, test the torque transmission efficiency of your system of linkages.
[20 Points] 3. Design overview. We examine your model. This is your chance to impress us with innovative ideas and the quality of the build. [20 Points]
