Blood Vessels
Capillaries
Capillaries are the smallest blood
vessels in the body measuring only 1
cell thick. These are the link between
the arterioles and venules while
allowing the transfer of substances to
occur. The very thin walls of the
capillaries allowed nutrients and
gases to diffuse into the cells and
waste products from the cells (i.e.
carbon dioxide) to diffuse back in the
blood for excretion later. Different
tissues will have different amounts of
capillaries dependant upon the
individual tissues demand for oxygen

The Hearts Job
• The heart pumps blood to every part
of the body, while doing this, it is
supping your body with oxygen and
all the vitamins and minerals that
your body needs to grow and repair
itself, and not forget it gets the stuff
that your body doesn’t need and
takes it to those parts of your body
like your liver, lungs and kidneys, to
remove waste from your body.
