FDAs involvement

In the summer of 2012 salmonella outbreaks was linked to mangoes. Particularly from Agricola Daniella U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) declared the fruit to be high risk, promising increased inspections at U.S. ports of entry. Mexicos National Service of Health, Food Safety, and Quality (SENASICA) insisted there was not enough evidence to conclude that mangoes were the source of the Salmonella. The Pennsylvania State University in food science in 2006, will be doing risk assessments both in mango facilities in growing countries and receiving warehouses in the U.S. http://www.hillcrest.com/

Mangiferin

In a study by Human and Experimental Toxicology, their study revealed that magnerferin has antigenotoxic effect against cadmium chloride (CdCl2)- induced toxicity in mice. Which the experimenters/researchers believed may be due to scavening of free radicals and increased anioxidant status. The study also revealed that Mangiferin increased the survivability of the animals treated with CdCl2 and showed protective effects against CdCl2induced animal mortality and genotoxicity, indicating its role in counteracting heavy metal toxicity Mangiferin has been shown to have the effect of improving dyslipidemia, high blood cholesterol levels, in another study.
