Introduction & Objectives

Traffic jam is obstructing trade and commerce and consume the most valuable time of human. More than twelve million people live here, population growth affected Dhaka city More than 7 hundred thousand rickshaws play on the city road, but only 75 thousand have legal number which creates traffic jam. Illegal parking is another reason for traffic jam. Government of Bangladesh should decide to implement the Dhaka Metro Rail Project. Development Objective key to reduce traffic jam and make it efficient, economically viable, environment friendly. Immediate objective - Main objective is to provide a rail based mass transit connectivity to people within an approach distance of 1 to 2 K.m ; To provide proper interchange facilities for connectivity to neighboring areas like Gazipur, Chittagong Highway, etc.

To reduce traffic jam we can take steps such as:

Have a good public transport system so people would use it Ban rickshaw from the main roads of Dhaka Good traffic system Good lane system Traffic police should do their duty properly Use zebra cross and foot over bridge Respect the law Metro rail Infrastructure development Express highways to be built Private participation in road development Low budget development of junctions Widening of busy roads More public transport systems Develop waterways wherever possible Expand Railway network.

Most effective way to Reducing Traffic Jam by Metro Rail

from Uttara to Jatrabari will take about 45 minutes and cost Tk 50. carry some 60,000 people an hour at peak times at Tk 2.50 per km require an estimated $1.7 billion implemented within next four years

Indicators of achievement
Indicators of achievements are a combination of outcome and output indicators, allowing an assessment of how the project has progressed. Outcome Indicators Provides rail based connectivity throughout Dhaka City. Reduces the journey time from 120 minutes to 45 minutes, between Uttara and Jatrabari. Provides rail based access to the EPZs and Other commercial developments

Conclusion
It is quite difficult to imagine that basic transport services can be provided for a metropolis with 10 million people without reliable mass transit system. Changes in transport technology, have over time, exerted a strong influence upon the shapes and forms of the urban areas. It will also attract the politicians, public representatives and the policy maker to push these actions forward as mitigation measure
