Theseus and the Minotaur

Tasks
1. We are going to read the myth of Theseus and the Minotaur as a class. 2. We are going to make a storyboard. There are two things we need to do to make the storyboard:
1. Cut and stick the sentences in the right order. 2. Draw pictures that match the sentences to show what happens in the myth.

Part 1
King Minos was the King of Crete, his ships were the most powerful warships on the seas.
King Minos lived in a grand palace which had a giant maze beneath it. The maze had lots of walls and passages.

Part 2
In the middle of the maze lived a Minotaur. The Minotaur had the body of a man and the head of a bull. He ate anyone who entered the maze and had a roar so loud it shuddered the palace floors.

Part 3
King Minos had a son who sailed to Athens to compete in a running event. He never returned, it is said that a jealous spectator killed the Kings son. King Minos was so angry and upset that he ordered his ships to attack Athens, the King of Athens, Aegeus begged for peace.

Part 4
King Minos accepted the peace request and said that each year, one man must come from Athens and attempt to get through his maze without being caught by the Minotaur as punishment to the city. King Aegeus son, Theseus was the first man to go to Crete to compete against the Minotaur.

Part 5
King Minos daughter, Ariadne saw Theseus sailing onto the beach at Crete and fell in love with him. She met him at the entrance of the maze with three things: 1. A sword to attack the Minotaur 2. A long thread to leave a trail to escape with 3. The request to leave with him for Athens and become his Princess.

Part 6
Theseus crept into the maze and was nearly out when he bumped into the giant Minotaur. The Minotaur roared and leapt at Theseus so he quickly struck it with his sword and killed the Minotaur.

Part 7
Theseus met his shipmates at the beach. They spent the night on the beach and celebrated their victory. In the morning Theseus got back onto his ship and set sail for Athens and left Ariadne behind. Ariadne met Dionyseus, the God of merriment and wine making on the beach. They fell in love and spent the rest of their lives together on the Island.

Part 8
Theseus father was waiting on the rocks above the beach in Athens for him and saw that the sail coming back was black not white, he thought that this was bad news. He thought that his son was dead and jumped off the rocks and was never seen again.

When Theseus arrived in Athens he was crowned the King of Athens.
