AP Biology Scavenger Hunt

By: Nick Econome

Introduced species: species that is not naturally found in a biome, such as ice plant in California Genetically Modified Organism: an organism that has been changed by humans for desirable traits, such as longer shelf life for tomatoes.

Mitosis: the replication of cells, which is constantly happening in the fingernails.

Plant adaptations: changes to better help the plant live in the environment. This dwarf orange tree has grown taller than most others due to the lack of sunlight in the area

Amniotic egg: egg with a shell to be able to be laid on land

Forest biome

Biomes
Areas with the same climate and vegetation
River biome

Swamp biome

Grassland biome

Left: Red flower Right: white flower

Different alleles for the same species:

Different options for traits for same species, such as eye color or hair color Purple flower

Multiple variations of cacti

Same class but different orders:
Similar species but not the same, related like cousins

Gymnosperm leaf: Leaves of a plant that doesnt flower Schooling behavior: Fish swimming with similar fish in a school.

Gymnosperm: Plants that have seeds that are exposed, such as inside a pinecone
ATP: Energy for every human action from running to typing this project; spiral sliced ham creates a lot of ATP

<- Unsaturated fat: Fat not full of carbons makes it liquidy Fermentation -> Breaking down of wheat by enzymes such as yeast creates beer

<- Saturated fat: Fat that is filled with carbons and stacks, causing health issues Glycogen-> Fat used in glycosis, such as fat trim of steaks

<-enzyme: catalyst in reactions, such as yeast in fermentation Adhesion of water: Water bonds to another substance, causing the rise of the ring ->
<-territorial behavior: One animal protects its territory, like this howler monkey Entropy-> This cow is giving off heat energy, which is changing the entropy

<-endothermy: animal has the capability of regulating central body temperature Ectothermy:-> Animal incapable of regulating body temperature and must warm itself

<-Animal adaptation: changes for the benefit of the animal, such as long talons Carbohydrates:-> A simple building block of the food groups. Necessary for life.

<-gymnosperm cone: where the seeds of a gymnosperm are contained Hydrophobic-> Oil sits on top of the water because it is hydrophobic and will not mix <-cohesion of water: Water on wax paper stays together due to hydrogen bonds Hydrophilic-> Salt mixes into the water due to it being a hydrophilic polar molecule of NaCl

<-Calvin cycle: The leaf of the plant is using the Calvin cycle to create glucose molecules Cellulose-> Grass is made up of cellulose, which creates their cell walls.

<-Artificial selection The dog is bred for its traits such as no shedding Parasitism:-> When one organism uses another for its own benefit, like a child and parents

Grass is eaten by crickets. Crickets are eaten by mice. Mice are eaten by cats

4 organisms on the same food chain

4 different organisms from 4 different divisions

Dicots- plants that have flowers and 2 cotyldons Monocots- flowering plant that grows from the inside
