GENERAL EXHAUST SYSTEMS

Types of exhaust systems

General exhaust systems Acid exhaust system Wet exhaust system Utility exhaust system

Function of GEX
General Exhaust System - general heat / odor exhaust from process tools - solvent exhaust for lab areas - Valve manifold Box (VMB) exhaust for hydrogen gas system. Acid exhaust system - Acid exhaust for lab areas

Wet Exhaust System - segregate the moisture-laden air in a watertight and corrosion duct. - Tools that condense steam or water vapor saturation into ductwork. Utility exhaust system - Low pressure exhaust for restrooms and janitorial rooms - Kicthen exhaust for food preparation equipment.

Space, Size & location

Exhaust fan located in AHU rooms, Mechanical rooms or on building internal mezzanines. Close to point of use as possible to minimize cost of ductwork and pressure losses (operating losses) GEX provide a minimum of one system per Functional Area : to minimize ducting static pressure losses.

Ductwork shall be rectangular, round duct is permitted (when cost effective and space permits) Ductwork shall properly supported along the facility. Balance / isolation slide dampers at all branches and every tool drop.

General Design Criteria

Maintain noise levels below 80 dBA at 1 meter away from any part of system. Fans shall be VFD controlled. Pressure sensor in main ductwork to provide feedback load of system allow tools to be brought onto the system without changing the static pressure inside ductwork. Fan speed and system pressure monitored by BMS

Non process fans shall operate at a fixed speed capability to upgrade 10 % on SP and Flow. Select fan based on operating efficiency and cost.

Acceptable Exhaust Ductwork Materials.

General Criteria ductwork designs.

Duct design criteria

Spring isolation for fan, flexible connection at inlets and discharges if connected to ductwork and stacks. Fans shall have scroll access door and scroll drain plug. Multiple fans for capacities greater than: - 20,000 scfm and static pressure 1 inch w.c and higher. - 30,000 scfm and static pressure below 1 inch w.c

Use almunium fan construction for areas where high humidity is expected in wet exhaust, locker rooms and shower rooms. Slope wet exhaust duct away from tool drops toward fans, provide duct drains every 20 feet with P-trap plumbed to wastewater system. Insulate ductwork above 49 c(120 F) with suitable insulation. All ventilators shall mounted on insulated wall mount and with rain louvers. Duct systems for production areas are to be wiped down, vacuumed, or blown clean with compressed air before installation all ductwork is sealed with plastic after cleaning and during assembly.
