COURSE DESCRIPTION

This course introduces students to the concepts and

roles of professional nursing. The course will emphasis the caring role of the nurse and the importance of interpersonal communication. The following core concepts related to nursing practice are presented: THE CARING NATURE OF THE NURSING PROFESSION, THE IMPORTANCE OF CRITICAL THINKING/CLINICAL JUDGEMENT, LEGAL/ETHICAL/CULTURAL ISSUES IN NURSING, and USE OF THE NURSING PROCESS.

COURSE OBJECTIVES
At the end of the course, the students will able

to: Describe the breadth and variety of roles, professional knowledge, and characteristics integral to a baccalaureate prepared nurse. Examine the development of Nursing as a profession. Explain the relationship of nursing to other health professions and the health care system.

Describe the health care system and the factors that influence the delivery of health care. Describe the phases of nursing process. Understand the need for continued personal and professional growth in nursing.

Class Rules
Come to class on time. Classes begin at 8am, a grace period of 15 minutes is given for late comers. A student is considered tardy/late if she arrives after the checking of attendance inside the designated classroom and or she

came in 15 minutes later than the grace period.

A student is considered absent if she fails to report for class.


Nobody is allowed to use their mobile phones

while the class is ongoing. Attend to your personal needs before coming to class. Talk only when permitted. The English language shall be used at all times inside the classroom.

A quiz is given every meeting. Consultation hours with the

professor/teacher should be scheduled. Nobody is allowed to eat and drink while the class is ongoing Students are not allowed to touch the computer and projector. Remain in your assigned seat unless you have permission to transfer.

Do not cheat. If your caught cheating it is

automatically zero (0) mark on your grade. Follow the teacher's directions immediately. Listen attentively.
