Purpose
Increase Packet Data Capacity on CDMA eBSC Reduce footprint associated with 1x packet data Offer a flexible, standards based, open architecture platform to operators
Target Customers
High capacity CDMA customers whose current packet data network is capacity / footprint constrained CDMA customers wanting to offer higher data rates to their customers without impacting footprint CDMA customers requiring Open RP on the BSC
-3
High capacity, scalable packet data platform with reduced CPDS Solution Overview footprint!

Reduced OpEx:
Co-existence with existing BSC / SBS preserves operators investment Large floor-space reduction (30x to 60x) compared to existing SBS solution Power and Air Conditioning savings Reduced I&C and simplified engineering
-5
RP Session Redundancy associated with Dormant Subscribers raises CSAT and maintains revenue stream in the event of s/w upgrade or h/w failure Platform for future packet data features: IS-2000 Rel. A (307.2kbps), 1xEV-DV/MC-DV Investment protection: Co-existence with existing BSC / Selector Bank Subsystem (SBS) platforms Overload controls to prevent outage Reduced installation effort (fewer packs vs. multiple frames in SBS) Platform for supporting future technologies (e.g. 1xEV-DV; IS-2000 Rel. A)
DSFP
1+1 Redundancy: To maintain RP sessions during software upgrade in the event of one PCUFP failing
Open RP interface
PDSNs
CPDS introduces : DSFP (Data and Selection Function Processor) and PCUFP (Packet Control Unit Function Processor) Both FPs use the same hardware but assume different software personality (DSFP or PCUFP) based on configuration

Also uses feedback from BTS to maintain accuracy in synchronization This avoids the need for hardware (CCMC/eBSCTM/24pBCNW FP) based timing for CPDS applications
This timing scheme on eBSC is critical for CPDS Packet data call processing and requires high availability NTP server / connectivity
Key Benefits to operator:
Major floor space reduction Doubles eBSC frame capacity for CPDS by eliminating the need for CCMC/24pBCNW /eBSCTM in the top half of the frame (Note this is still required to support DISCO/SBS applications) NTP servers can be linked to existing GPS Antennas via splitters Solution can be shared by multiple eBSCs in the same central office Applicable for the voice platform evolution (CSVS)

Billing inconsistency occurs in the hybrid system (Closed RP and Open RP) if the Airlink Record (Active Start and Stop) is used
The inconsistency will occur within a data session if a user moves between Closed RP and Open RP for active calls during the data session The inconsistency will occur between data sessions if a user stays on either the Closed RP or the Open RP interface during the data session To maintain Billing consistency, 2 options are available: Maintain existing SBS closed RP based billing scheme (Flat Rate, Packet Based, Total Session Time) Use Active Start and Active Stop (IS-835B) based billing scheme and configure the network to direct all packet data calls to CPDS
