The Book of Hebrews quotes Jeremiah 31:31 about how God promised a New Covenant under a new Dispensation

brought about by Christs Death on The Cross

Hebrews says that New Covenant is NOW!!! I will be merciful to their unrighteousness, and their sins and their lawless deeds I will remember no more. Hebrews 8:12
LUKE 23:34

As Jesus was breathing His lastFather, forgive them; for they know not what they do

Ephesians 4:32 And be kind to one another, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, just as God in Christ forgave you. FORGIVENESS...WHAT IS IT??? IT IS BEHAVING TOWARD SOMEONE WHO WRONGED YOU AS THOUGH IT NEVER HAPPENED...ITS FORGETTING!! Its the perfume the trampled flower casts back on the foot that crushes it.

Its not that God actually "forgets" -- He simply chooses not to remember our sins!
Obviously...you are not going to actually forget wrongs done to you....you simply will choose not to remember them!! Paul is saying: "we must forgive one another in the same way God forgives us...by forgetting.
GOD CHOOSES TO FORGIVE OUR TRESPASSESIn Jere 31:34 he said under this New Covenant: I WILL REMEMBER THEIR SIN NO MORE. GODS SON PAID THE DEBT!!! IT NEVER HAPPENED!!!

One Christian lady wronged another Elders intervened The one wronged said: "Well, I will forgive her, but I never want to have anything more to do with her." WHAT IF GOD FORGAVE US ALL IN THIS WAY??? Bury the hatchet is an American colloquialism meaning "to make peace." The phrase is an allusion to the figurative or literal practice of putting away the tomahawk at the end of wars among Native Americans. It has come to mean: To FORGIVE or to bury the matter....& treat it like it never happened!

READERS DIGEST: A soldier named Paul received his wife's letter confessing unfaithfulness...But Paul got wounded in battle...AMNESIA...his wife was afraid to visit him in the hospital...Doctor said, "Don't fear...he doesn't remember a thing...."

2Corinthians 5:19 To wit, that God was in Christ, reconciling the world unto himself, not imputing their trespasses unto them; and hath committed unto us the word of reconciliation.

WHEN GOD FORGIVES US...HE HAS VOLUNTEERED AMNESIA!!

HE CHOOSES TO FORGIVE & FORGET!!

SO MUST WE!
With this God-like attitude...we can rebuild relationships! They'll be stronger than ever!!

SOMEONE SAYS: "HOW MANY TIMES SHALL I FORGIVE?" ( MATT. 18:21- 22) Its doubtful that Jesus meant literally 490 TIMES! He meant an infinite number of times!! Surely, we are not going to keep records so that on #491 we say: "ALRIGHT, THATS IT.....NO MORE."
By the time you have forgiven me 70x7... you're in the habit of forgiving!! I'm persuaded thats what Jesus meant!

Now look at: LUKE 17:3-4 Here Jesus says we must forgive IF he repents. However, even if he doesn't...you must still manifest kindness & tenderness toward him!
Jesus never gave us license to be mean & ugly toward others! MATT. 5:44-46 VENGEANCE DOES NOT BELONG TO US!!
Romans 12:19-21 (NKJV) 19 Beloved, do not avenge yourselves, but rather give place to wrath; for it is written, "Vengeance is Mine, I will repay," says the Lord. 20 Therefore "If your enemy is hungry, feed him; If he is thirsty, give him a drink; For in so doing you will heap coals of fire on his head." 21 Do not be overcome by evil, but overcome evil with good.

BEING ABLE TO FORGIVE IS A MARK OF OUR MATURITY IN CHRIST! "To err is human...to forgive is Divine."

God is forgiving because of His "SPIRITUAL QUALITY." YOU & I TAKE ON "THE DIVINE NATURE OF GOD WHEN WE FORGIVE!

Forgiveness was not difficult for Joseph... HE FORGAVE HIS WICKED BROTHERS WHO SOLD HIM INTO SLAVERY!

Forgiveness was not difficult for David... HE FORGAVE KING SAUL WHO TRIED TO KILL HIM!

Forgiveness was not difficult for Stephen... "Father, lay not this sin...."

MATT. 6:14-15 For if you forgive men their trespasses, your heavenly Father will also forgive you: But if you forgive not men their trespasses, neither will your Father forgive your trespasses. HE WHO DOES NOT FORGIVE OTHERS BURNS THE BRIDGE TO GOD'S FORGIVENESS!!

CONCLUSION: A mother sought Napoleon's pardon for her son. The Emperor said that it was the boy's second offense, and JUSTICE demanded death! The mother replied: "I don't ask for JUSTICE...I plead for MERCY." The Emperor responded, "But he doesn't deserve MERCY." The mother cried out: "SIR, IT WOULD NOT BE MERCY IF HE DESERVED IT, & MERCY IS WHAT I ASK FOR NAPOLEON GOT THE POINT -- THE BOY WAS RELEASED.
WHEN YOU STAND IN JUDGMENT, DO YOU WANT JUSTICE OR MERCY?
