Besides appearance, the teachers body language speaks volume about the teachers attitude towards the students.

For example, if a teacher enters the class with arms folded and makes no eye contact with the students, the signal sent to them is that, the teacher is not interested to teach them.
If a teacher walks into class with a smile, it shows that she is happy to teach the class. The students will also reciprocate by smiling. Hence, remember to enter the class with a smile.

Maintain eye contact with your students so that they know they are important to you. Be energetic and show enthusiasm in your walk and behaviour.
Always remember, first impressions count. So, do make an effort to present yourself in a positive manner to your students to command respect from them.
talent counts 30%; appearance counts 70% (Chinese proverb)

Your choice of words and action will have to reflect that you respect them and you are concerned about their learning. Showing concern and being sympathetic of the students needs is very important. Your choice of words that you use on the students will have serious implications, as the selection of the words will convey the type of message you want the students to receive.

Teachers attitude using positive words

Teachers attitude modeling good behaviour

Adopting a positive behaviour would also send the right signals to your students. E.g: Show interest Smile at your students Listen to them Show sincerity in their progress Show concern when they are not well Learn to read their moods and to determine whether they have a problem.

Remember that by modeling the right behaviour, you are teaching your students the right type of behaviour that they must adopt.

Teachers attitude setting an example

If you want your students to respect you, you will have to set an example by showing respect to them first. Do not always wait for your students to greet you first and to scold them if they do not. Instead, set an example by greeting them. Some good practices which you can demonstrate are:

Greet your students. Address them by name (if you expect them to remember your name, they will likewise expect you to know them by name). Say please when you need your students to do something. Say thank you once your students do something for you. Ask your students; do not command them to do something.
