The Final Curtain

You shall make a veil woven of blue, purple, and scarlet thread, and fine woven linen. It shall be woven with an artistic design of cherubim. You shall hang it upon the four pillars of acacia wood overlaid with gold. Their hooks shall be gold, upon four sockets of silver. And you shall hang the veil from the clasps. Then you shall bring the ark of the Testimony in there, behind the veil. The veil shall be a divider for you between the holy place and the Most Holy. Ex. 26:31-35

The temple curtain was 4inches thick.(the length was 60 feet. The width was 30 feet. And the weight was in the region of 4 tons. It took 300 men to hold it.)

This veil was used to separate the Holy Place from the Holy of Holies. Once a year under Jewish law the High Priest passed behind the veil and offered a sin offering in behalf of the people. This was called the atonement.

The veil was a constant and somber reminder that sin separated people from the presence of God. The veil represented just how limited man was in finding forgiveness and reconciliation.

Previously saying, Sacrifice and offering, burnt offerings, and offerings for sin You did not desire, nor had pleasure in them (which are offered according to the law), then He said, Behold, I have come to do Your will, O God. He takes away the first that He may establish the second. By that will we have been sanctified through the offering of the body of Jesus Christ once for all. Heb.10:810

Jesus came for man out of love for one simple reason: Sin seeks to dominate and enslave. Jesus came to set you free! All of our technology, and all our knowledge, and all our increased communication that makes the world a small place, has not resolved mans basic problemBONDAGE.

We live in a world of addictions, hang-ups, anger, and hate. The despair is palpable. The hopelessness is running rampant and the human race is broken and looking for answers.

The problem with man is he is SHUT OUT! The problem with God in the Old Testament is He was SHUT IN!

This disconnect is the source of all this pain, hurt and sadness. But God has a solution JESUS!

He is despised and rejected by men, A Man of sorrows and acquainted with grief. And we hid, as it were, our faces from Him; He was despised, and we did not esteem Him. Surely He has borne our griefs And carried our sorrows; Yet we esteemed Him stricken, Smitten by God, and afflicted. Isaiah 53:3-4 NKJV

And they stripped Him and put a scarlet robe on Him. 29 When they had twisted a crown of thorns, they put it on His head, and a reed in His right hand. And they bowed the knee before Him and mocked Him, saying, Hail, King of the Jews! 30 Then they spat on Him, and took the reed and struck Him on the head. 31 And when they had mocked Him, they took the robe off Him, put His own clothes on Him, and led Him away to be crucified. Mt.27

Now from the sixth hour until the ninth hour there was darkness over all the land. And about the ninth hour Jesus cried out with a loud voice, saying, Eli, Eli, lama sabachthani? that is, My God, My God, why have You forsaken Me? Some of those who stood there, when they heard that, said, This Man is calling for Elijah! Immediately one of them ran and took a sponge, filled it with sour wine and put it on a reed, and offered it to Him to drink. The rest said, Let Him alone; let us see if Elijah will come to save Him.

And Jesus cried out again with a loud voice, and yielded up His spirit. Then, behold, the veil of the temple was torn in two from top to bottom; and the earth quaked, and the rocks were split,

Nevertheless when one turns to the Lord, the veil is taken away. Now the Lord is the Spirit; and where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is liberty. But we all, with unveiled face, beholding as in a mirror the glory of the Lord, are being transformed into the same image from glory to glory, just as by the Spirit of the Lord.2 Cor.3:1618
