Module Outcomes
Module 6: Working with View Administrator learning objectives: Demonstrate how to log in and navigate in the View Administrator interface. Describe how information in the Users and Groups page can be used to control and monitor View users. List the steps to create an automated pool. Discuss the purpose of roles and privileges in View and how they are administered in View Administrator. Outline the steps for using the ThinApp assignment feature to deploy ThinApp applications to View desktops.
Connect using:

You can use View Administrator user interface features to navigate View Pages and to find, filter, and sort View objects.
In View Administrator tables that display View objects, you can select an object or view the object details.
Locate virtual desktops based on host, datastore and user. Diagnose specific virtual machine issues.
Provides quicker access to end user related information. Perform Vdmadmin operations from View Administrator.
In View Administrator, select Users and Groups. This page enables you to access pools and desktops from the perspective of the users who access the desktops.
In Users and Groups page, double-click group name. Provides general information about the group. Shows pools this group is entitled to access.
Select the Entitlements tab. Displays more details about each entitlement Sessions tab lists the active sessions.
In View Administrator, select Users and Groups and click the name of the user. Summary tab: displays information unique for this user: group memberships, entitlements, assigned desktops, and if linked clone desktops, the names of the persistent disks.
Select the Sessions tab to display desktops that are active for this user. Allows a View administrator to quickly access and manage a users desktop if a user reports a problem.
Global Policies
In View Administrator, select Inventory > Pools and double-click the pool ID to open the <pool- ID> page. Click Edit Policies to override each set of policies.

Select a Template
At the vCenter Server page, click Browse to the right of the Template box. Select the template you wish to use for this pool.
Select a host or cluster on which to run the virtual machines provisioned by this pool. A DRS/HA cluster gives you ESX/ESXi host failover. The number of virtual desktops that a host can support varies. A single View Connection Server can manage virtual desktops on multiple vCenter Server instances.
Select a resource pool in which to run the virtual machines used by the desktop pool. Do not confuse resource pools with desktop pools.
Select a Datastore
If multiple datastores are selected, View Manager will distribute desktops across them.
Select a customization specification. A single customization specification can be used with multiple desktop pools and with multiple templates.
After the pool has been created, you must still entitle it. Best practice: Entitle an AD group to a pool.
Apply a filter all pools with sales in any column are displayed.
The display name of the pool will appear in the View Client for all users who are entitled to use it The user does not know anything about a desktop pool, so it is prudent to use display names that are meaningful to the user

You can use View Administrator to distribute and manage applications packaged with ThinApp.
Managing ThinApp applications in View Administrator involves capturing and storing application packages, adding ThinApp applications to View Administrator, and assigning ThinApp applications to desktops and pools.
Step 2: Assign the ThinApp applications to desktops that are vCenter Server virtual machines:
Assign one or more applications to one or more desktops. Assign applications to all desktops in one or more pool.
1.
2.
3.
4.
Create a shared folder on a computer in an Active Directory domain that it accessible to both your View Connection Server host and View desktops. Configure the file and sharing permissions on the shared folder to give Read access to the builtin Active Directory group Domain Computers. If you plan to assign ThinApp applications to domain controllers, give Read access to the builtin Active Directory group Domain Controllers. Copy your MSI packages to the shared folder.
Register repositories so View Administrator knows the locations of the network shares that contain the MSI packages:
Select the ThinApp applications in the repository you want to add to View Administrator:
Select the ThinApp applications you want to assign to either a pool or desktop. Click Add Assignment and make a selection.
1.
2.
On the ThinApps page, select an application, click Add Assignment, and select Pools. In the Add Pool Assignment dialog, select the target pools and click Add.
Only pools that do not have this application assigned are in the list.
3.
Stream the executable from the network share. Install the executable on the desktops local file system.
The application is installed the first time a user logs into a desktop in the pool.
The Assigning ThinApp Applications in View Administrator guided tour will show the steps for assigning a ThinApp application to a linkedclone pool and desktop in View Administrator. Click the Assigning_ThinApp_Apps_GT.swf file to view the guided tour.
