PRESENTATION ON OVERCOMING FEAR

PREPARED BY RED ROSE GROUP

ABSTRACT
In Academic circles, it is not unusual for students to experience the fear . Fear can be defined as; An anxious feeling or emotion experienced in anticipation of some specific pain or danger (usually accompanied by a desire to flee or fight) as drawn from Advanced English Dictionary(AED).

Overcoming fear doesnt happen instantly or automatically. It is the result of deliberate intention, and conscious action towards doing things. As a result of overcoming your fears, you grow as a person, and expand the possibilities that surround your life, this includes achieving academic excellence; this requires a lot of effort.

EFFECTS OF FEAR
POSITIVE EFFECTS
Act as motivation and lead to a better mind set Fear still keeps us safe from danger. Fear motivate us to success.

NEGATIVE EFFECTS
Error in judgement and prevents us from taking the most reasonable course of action Extreme stress will become a fearful and angry person.

Types and Examples of Fear


There are 3 types of fear According to yahoo Voices

i)External
consists of phobias which are usually brought on from negative past experiences.

ii)Internal
This is an emotion which links negativity with our sense of self.

iii) Mental or subconscious fears


This type of fear is possibly the worst fear of all. Now that the mind and the subconscious have accepted certain emotional fears as normal.
Examples of fear Self-sabotage: ie., excessive anxiety Fear of failure A reluctance to try new things Low self-esteem or self-confidence such as "I'll never be good enough to get that promotion," or "I'm not smart enough to get on that team.

HOW TO OVERCOME FEAR


I. Awareness. You have to know that fear is causing havoc in your life. Develop Accurate Perception Our
perception of a situation determines our thoughts and that in turn creates how we feel about a situation. Thoughts and feelings work hand in hand. Each one influences the other.

afraid of. Curiosity. Get curious about what thoughts generate your fear, be an observer of what is going on, asking a few simple questions while focusing on your fear. Journaling. Getting your fears down on paper is important. Henri1

II.Talk. Dont throw a pity party for yourself. Life Coach. A good life coach can help you examine what you truly want from life, and where your fears come from. Ask; Ask your heart, God, the universe, or whatever you feel comfortable with. What are your fears trying to tell you? Model;find someone who had the fear you have, but managed to get rid of it. ask them how they did it, and learn to use their strategies in your own life.

III Distract yourself. Read. Reading a good book on your specific fear, watching a movie or a documentary can open new doors on how you can get rid of it. IV Meditate. calms your body and detensionalize the brain, Pray. praying for guidance on how to start overcoming your specific fear.Yoga; When you do Yoga trapped energy can be released. Sometimes parts of your fears, after a few months. Breathe. Your breath can set you free. It can anchor you in the now and help you vanquish and overcome your most pervasive fears.Its the simplest and most powerful ways of overcoming fear.

V. Positivity. Think of something positive. Gratitude. switch it over to what you are grateful for instead. Perspective. putting your negative thoughts in perspective, by looking at all the options, you often realize that youre making a big deal of nothingDiet. All the sugars, additives, sweeteners, and other chemicals in our foods have a powerful effect in getting our body out of balance. Stick to a clean diet that suits you. Believe in Yourself; Doubt is like cancer. It feeds on all the positive, happy thoughts and feelings you may have.. Nadia2 .
