WARID TELECOM

HISTORY
Warid Telecom was established through a joint venture between Abu Dhabi Group and SingTel Group. It provides telephony services in Congo, Pakistan and Uganda. The Abu Dhabi Group entered into a strategic alliance with SingTel, of which the Abu Dhabi Group owned 70% and SingTel 30% stake in the telecom company.

 The Abu Dhabi Group, a large business conglomerate in the Middle East, announced acquisition of SingTels shareholding in Warid Telecom. become the sole owner with equity holding of 100% in the Pakistani telecom company. Singapore Telecommunications (SingTel) had agreed to sell its entire 30% stake in Warid Telecom to a unit of the Abu Dhabi Group.

 The Acquisition comes at a time when Warid was about to enter its eighth year of operations in the country. After the acquisition the group plans to improve Warid Telecoms operations in Pakistan by introducing new technologies, services and packages

IN PAKISTAN
In 2004, Warid Telecom International LLC, purchased a license for operating a nationwide mobile telephony network. The licence was bid for and acquired by a team led by Bashir Tahir, the former CEO of the Abu Dhabi Group, which is the parent company of all Warid operations. Warid Pakistan launched its services in May 2005.

With in 80 day of launched Warid Pakistan claim to attract 1 million users.
