Production planning defines as, the technique of foreseeing or picturing ahead, every step in a long series of separate operations, each step to be taken in the right place, of the right degree & at the right time, each operation to be done at maximum efficiency. -Alford & Beauty

1. It is a universal production activity. It is the basis & pre- requires of production control.

3.It includes routing of production activities & layout of production facilities.

4. It is related to planning, directing & controlling or production methods.

1. To co-ordinate production activities in a systematic manner. 2.To ensure best possible utilization of available resources. 3. To ensure regular &steady flow of production. 4. To maintain flexibility in manufacturing operation. 5. To bring out the cost of production. 6. To assist workers in carrying out their work effectively. 7.To prior the guiding principle of tackling the consumer problems by for man & executives in day to day working.

1. Production planning sets to objectives. 2. It helps organization face enforcing conditions. 3. Best utilization of resources. 4. It provides basis for controls.

1. Determination of target.
2. collection &interpretation of information. 3. Developing plan. 4. Putting plan into action

5. Follow-Up action.

Production control is a facilitating services to manufacturing it co-ordinates all the production operations by collecting the relevant information about various types of input & outputs by making necessary adjustment in them. It directs & checks the course & progress of the work closes the records on the completion of the work as order.

1. To implement the production plans by issuing necessary orders to the persons who are supposed to implement them. 2. To make necessary arrangement to predetermine demand. 3. To maintain the inventory for optimum level. 4. To arrange the activities of quality control & inspection.

1. Activity control 2. control on inventory 3. Control on tools 4. Control on timings of production 5. Quality controls 6. Replacement control 7. Labour efficiency control 8. Control on machines & equipments 9. Control on methods 10. control on progress of orders

2. Routing
3. Scheduling

4. Dispatching (a) Centralized (b) Decentralized 5. Follow up

1. Effective services 2. Absence of Rush order 3. Avoidness of bottle necks 4. Inventory control 5. Economy in production time 6. Equipment Utilization

Measures or techniques implemented to reduce the risk of injury, loss & danger to persons, property or the environment in any facility or place involving the manufacturing, producing and processing of goods or merchandise. Today, industrial safety is widely regarded as one of the most important factors that any business, large or small, must consider in its operations.

In general, workplace hazards can be categorized into three groups: 1. Chemical hazards - in which the body absorbs toxins. 2. Ergonomic hazards - in which the body is strained or injured, often over an extended period, because of the nature (design) of the task, its frequency, or intensity. 3. Physical hazards - in which the worker is exposed to harmful elements or physical dangers, such as heat or moving parts.

First comprehensive industrial safety legislation passed at the federal level was Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970 The Occupational Safety and Health Act (OSHAct) of 1970 was passed by Congress "to assure so far as possible every working man and woman in the Nation safe and healthful working conditions and to preserve our human resources." OSHA was established within the Department of Labor and was authorized to regulate health and safety conditions for all employers with few exceptions. Includes safety standards, designed to prevent accidents, and health standards, designed to protect against exposure to toxins and to address the more long-term effects of occupational hazards.

encourage employers and employees to reduce workplace hazards and to implement new or improve existing safety and health standards; provide for research in occupational safety and health and develop innovative ways of dealing with occupational safety and health problems; establish "separate but dependent responsibilities and rights" for employers and employees for the achievement of better safety and health conditions; maintain a reporting and recordkeeping system to monitor job-related injuries and illnesses; establish training programs to increase the number and competence of occupational safety and health personnel

Imminent Danger: Condition where there is reasonable certainty that a danger exists that can be expected to cause death or serious physical harm immediately or before the danger can be eliminated through normal enforcement procedures.

Catastrophic and Fatal Accidents : Investigation of fatalities and catastrophes resulting in hospitalization of three or more employees. Employee Complaints: Each employee has the right to request an OSHA inspection when the employee feels that he or she is in imminent danger from a hazard or when he or she feels that there is a violation of an OSHA standard that threatens physical harm Programmed High Hazard

Inspections: OSHA establishes programs of inspection aimed at specific high hazard industries, occupations, or health hazards. Re-inspections: Establishments cited for alleged serious violations may be reinspected to determine whether the hazards have been corrected.

Safety Signs

CAUTION: Potentially hazardous situation which, if not avoided, may result in minor or moderate injury.

DANGER: Imminently hazardous situation which, if not avoided, will result in death or serious injury. NOTICE: Signs used to indicate a statement of company policy or information indirectly related to the safety of personnel or protection of property.

Policy are in place but lacks implementation. Its the time that principles laid down must be transformed into action, action must deliver result and progress towards result must be measurable. Be Aware, Be Alert & Be Alive
