In the light of this context, the CPE has adopted this definition:
Peace Education is essentially, transformative education. It cultivates the knowledge base, skills, attitudes and values
It seeks this transformation by building awareness and
that seek to transform peoples mindsets, attitudes and behaviors that in the first place, have either created or exacerbated violent conflicts. understanding, cultivating concern and challenging personal and social action that will enable people to live, relate and create conditions and systems that actualize nonviolence, justice, environmental care and other peace

o Establishment of a Peace Commission (now called OPAPP or Office of the Presidential Adviser on the Peace Process) with a Peace Education Unit. o Declaration of September as Peace Consciousness Month o Peace Centers based in schools,
o Community- based peace education done by NGOs o 1999- establishment of a Peace Education Network
Civil Society
July 2008- Approval of the EO 570 Implementing Guidelines by the Department of Education, Commission on Higher Education and the Office of the Presidential Adviser on the Peace Process. The coordinator of Peace Education Network was a member of the group that drafted the guidelines.
