Meaning of grievance

A grievance is any real or imaginary feeling


of dissatisfaction and injustice which an employee has about his employment relationship.

DIFFINITION OF GRIEVANCE According to Dale S. Beach : Grievance is any dissatisfaction or feeling of injustice in connection with ones employment situation that is brought to the attention of management.

According to Michael J. Jucious : A grievance is any dissatisfaction or discontent , whether expressed or not , whether valid or not, arising out of anything connected with the company that an employee think believes or even feels , is unfair
, unjust or inequitable.

Causes of Grievances :1. Grievance arising out of working condition


Poor physical conditions of the work place Very tight production standard Unplanned changes in schedules and procedure. Failure to maintain proper discipline Improper relationship with the supervisor

In Indian industry , adequate attention has not been paid to the settlement of grievance . Legislative framework only indirectly deals with the redressal of individual grievances. It consists of : 1. Advantages of Grievance
1. It brings grievance into the open so that management can know them and take necessary action to settle them. 2. It helps in preventing grievance from assuming dangerous proportions. 3. Management can solve a grievance before it becomes a disputes. 4. It enable the management to know the attitude and feelings of employee concerning the policies, rules, and practices of the organization.

expressing their fears, anxiety and dissatisfaction. 6. It helps to maintain cordial relation in the industry. 7. It serves as a check upon arbitrary and biased action on the part of management.
