Introduction
The 1st Term we read
an adapted version of
the diary of Anne Frank.
Now, in this power point,
I’m going to analise the diary and all that it
talks about: The country (Holland), the
Jewish community, the Second World
War, and then, I will write my opinion of a
part of the adapted book.
General subjects
The general subjects of the book are:
• The Second World War
• The discrimination of the
Jewish people
• The horrible life in the Second World War
• The teenager’s vision of the War
• The fear of been killed
Literal and cultural analysis of the book
Literal analysis:
• The book is a diary, it hasn’t got
chapters, it has got days.
• It hasn’t got a structure with introduction
and conclusion, because is the life of a
teenager.
• It hasn’t got ending written by the writer, it
has got an Afterword
Literal and cultural analysis of the book

Cultural analysis
• The book gives you a vision of the life of a
Jewish girl in a nazi country and it gives us a lot
of important cultural information about the life in
war days

• At the beginning of the book, we can see the life

of a Jewish thirteen years old girl of that time.
Historical and Social context
• In 1934 Adolf Hitler
arrived to the presidence
of Germany by
democratic choose.Then,
he started the dictatorial
and nazi government
• The Second World war
begins in september 1939
when German in
colaboration with Russia
invade Poland.
Historical and Social context
• Netherlands was easily conquered by the Germans.
They destroyed completely the Rotterdam city and
Netherlands surrended, because they were afraid.
• Netherlands , was speacilly important for the nazis cause
it was a very important strategic place it can open a way
to attack Britain and also Belgium.

Rotherdam after war

• . Some Netherlands soldiers tried to resist the invasion

destroying his own dicks causing dificulties in the terrain
but finally Netherlands fall under nazis control
Historical and Social context
• The antijewish nazi politicians view was fast applied in
Holland and of course in the capital Amsterdam (Anne
Frank’s city) and a lot of Jewish were deported to
extermination Camps. A lot of Holland Jewish as Anne
Frank and his family were forced to hide themselves not
to be captured by the Gestapo.
Historical and Social context
• The Axe territories (Italy,
Germany and Japan)
surrended in different
times: Italy in 1943,
German finally surrended
at the beginning of 1945
and Japan continued
fighting. The atomic
bombs in Hiroshima and
Nagasaki make finally
surrend Japan. Holland
was free in may 1945
when German signed its
armistice.
The country and the city of the
book
Holland:
• Holland is a region from the
Netherlands. People called a long time
the Netherlands “the seventeen united
provinces”, but in the Second World War
his name was the Netherlands.The
capital city, Amsterdam, is in Holland,
and that’s the reason of the confusion of
these two names, that people say that
they mean the same.
• Actually Holland is considerated one of
the most liberal countries specially for 3
reasons: His drugs policy, the
Euthanasia and the legacy of
homosexual marriage .
The country and the city of the
book
Amsterdam
• Amsterdam is the capital city of Holland. It was founded in 1327. It
had an expansion, because it was a good comercial place. It had
some important wars, like the Spanish war in the 16th century. The
economy of the city was very good in 17th century, but it fell in the
18th and 19th century. Now is a turistic european city. In the photo,
Amsterdam at night.
The country and the city of the
book
Some traditions and typical things of Holland
• They ride bicycles if they can, they don’t like cars.
• At the teatime it’s polite to eat only one biscuit
• At new year the Holland inhabitants don’t normally have dinner they only
eat a special cake made by baked bread and grapes.
• The 5 December Saint Nicolaus go with his little blacks from spain on
boats to give presents to good children.
• In gastronomy, two of the most known Holland dishes are the marihuana
cake and the beans soap. Also they make dishes of carrots and potatoes.
We can consider a typical dish the Dutch Cheese
Jewish traditions
• The Jewish people are the people who follow the
religion of the ancient Israel. The Judaism is a
religion, but it’s considerated too a tradition and a
culture. For being a Jewish you have to be
accepted in that religion and do some special
rituals like having an important study of their
sacred book, the “Torá”
Jewish traditions
• The Jewish life is based in a lunar
monthly cycle/soloar years calendar
• The Jewish festivity day is the
Saturday(Sabath)
• The Jewish leader is the “Rabbi”
• Jewish people orate at the sinagoges.
• The Jewish kids have to had a little
operation: The circumsition. This
intervention it’s used too to operate of
“Fimosis”
• Some important people are/were
Jewish like Amy Winehouse or
Einstein.
Personal opinion of a part of the
book
• The part of the book that I’m going to talk about
are the first days in the secret annexe. When
Anne describes her life there and all the rules
they have to respect I realised how hard would
be living like them. Living in a hidden place, only
having the conection of a radio and four people
who give them the food…I can’t imagine a life in
these conditions.
Personal opinion of a part of the
book
• I think that the most hard time was when Anne
was alone, without the Van Daans or Mr. Dussel,
because life without comunication, that is one of
the vital functions. The problems with the bath
and with the food are very hard. I’m not sure that
I can live with these conditions.
Conclusions
The diary of Anne Frank shocked me and I wanted to read the original
version, because this adapted version was very good. While I was reading
the diary, I thought if Anne Frank was a writer as good as the book shows,
we have a literary talent, very good and not common, killed only for being
Jewish. Her dream was to be a writer and the one human’s stupidity
destroyed not only a dream, probably it destroyed one of the best writers of
that time.
