COMPUTER GENERATED IMAGERY

What is SEE GEE EYE??

application of computer generated graphics into... 3D computer graphics special effects in film television shows commercial simulators video games usually use real time computer graphics, but any games with video clips or film mostly use CGI

Why is it used?
it is used to make manipulating visual effects a lot easier you can change little things a lot easier then other then such things as miniature models also allows the creation of images that would not usually be able to be created with other technologies gives a single computer artist the capability to create such scenes without actors or scenes, simply a computer since CGI began, it has given small companies and artists the chance to create amazing films, games, and other art from their own home

How does it work?

an image that has been taken from a CAD(computer-aided design) file converted by computer software that manipulates the lighting and reflections this then creates a photorealistic image it combines 3D models of objects and hand "keyframed" movements models are constructed out of geometrical vertices, faces, and edges in a 3D coordinate system objects are moulded much like real clay, working from simple forms to specific details with various sculpting tools a bone/joint animation system is set up to deform the CGI model in a process called rigging, the virtual doll is given many controllers and handles for controlling movement animation data can be made using motion capture, or keyframing by a human animator

HISTORY
It is started in 1968, a group of Russian mathematicians and physicists headed by N.Konstantinov created a mathematic model of a moving cat across a screen. A program was made for a specialized computer called BESM-4. The computer printed hundreds of frames to be later converted into usable film material. In 1970, Peter Foldes created the first CGI animated short film drawn on a data tablet. Foldes also used the worlds first key frame animation software, invented by Nestor Burtnyk and Marceli Wein. 1971 the first CGI was used in television programs.

The first bit of CGI 1980s

first used in movies in 1973, Westworld first use of 3D wire framing in the sequel in 1976, Futureworld Stars Wars then used it for the wire framing of the Death Star and for the Millennium Falcon

Superman: The Movie (1978) conceived the first computergenerated title sequence
Black Hole used raster(formation consisting of the set of horizontal lines composed of pixels that is used to form an image on a CRT ) wire framing to create the simple image of a never ending black hole 1982- Tron & The Last Star Fighter were the first two full films of use of CGI for visual effects, but directors seemed to think that they were trying to make it look computer generated and did not like it

1990s
As we entered the age of the internet and the spreading of the personal computer CGI effects began to become more and more photo realistic.
1991- Terminator 2(Best Visual Effects) & Beauty and the Beast(Best Picture) had seamless CGI integrated into scenes 1993- Jurassic Park, where they used big puppet dinosaurs on set and used CGI to make them real. Babylon 5 & SeaQuest used CGI as their #1 way of visual effects 1994- Forrest Gump, CGI was used to input him into many historical events, and also make the ping pong ball move faster then it actually was 1995- Toy Story was the very first totally computer generated film

2000s (the creation of new CGI)

CGI became the #1 source for visual effects it was possible to create a virtual stunt double camera tracking- where an actor could wear bright colour dots on the moving parts of his/her body and the camera would then track the movements of those dots (EX: Video games such as NHL, NFL, FIFA, games where they want to collaborate a real persons actions into a game) flocking- or crowd simulator software, where the animator can create crowds with the computer, no longer needing extras virtual sets

In 2009 the best selling movie of all time, Avatar, pushed CGI to yet a higher level, creating a movie that was fully made with performance capture, transforming the actors into photo realistic 3D characters.

CGI used for

Visual effect (constructing miniatures for effects shots or hiring extras for crowd scenes)

Harry potter miniature models for some of the scenes

CGI allow
a single artist to produce content without the use of actors, expensive set pieces, or props.

The Visual Scenes may be

Term

CONTENT
Statistic images and landscape Architectural scenes Anatomical models Generating cloth and skin images Interactive simulation and visualization Computer animation Virtual world

Static Image And Landscape

Natural looking landscape (fractal landscape) Some typical, and easy to program fractals used in CGI are the plasma fractal and the more dramatic fault fractal.[3]

Architectural scenes
create 3-dimensional models for both customers and builders Architectural animation which provides animated movies of buildings, rather than interactive images. Give a specification of building, walk-troughs, and the effects of light and how sunlight will affect a specific design at different times of the day.

Anatomical Models
Computer generated models used in skeletal animation. It used both for instructional and operational purposes. These three dimensional models are usually extracted from multiple CT scans of the appropriate parts of the patients own anatomy.

Generating Cloth And Skin Images

use in film, advertising and other modes of public display

Interactive Simulation And Visualization

Applies to the rendering of data that may vary dynamically and allowing a user to view the data from multiple perspectives. ranging from the visualization of the flow patterns in fluid dynamics to specific computer aided design application. The data rendered may correspond to specific visual scenes that change as the user interacts with the system. E.g. Stimulators

Computer Animation (Dynamic)

resemble a movie. do not allow user interaction. a digital successor to the art of stop motion animation of 3D models and frame-by-frame animation of 2D illustrations. constructing miniatures for effects shots or hiring extras for crowd scenes. allow a single graphic artist to produce such content without the use of actors, expensive set pieces, or props. To create the illusion of movement, an image is displayed on the computer screen and repeatedly replaced by a new image that is similar to the previous image, but advanced slightly in the time domain (usually at a rate of 24 or 30 frames/second).

A Virtual World
allows user to interact with animated characters, or interact with other users through the use of animated characters known as avatars.

HAQ began production in February and is only now in the final stages of postproduction as a result of heavy CGI work.
