Terrain and Erected Towers
Strung Section at Far end
Conductor Under Rough Sag
Looking at the terrain through which
the lines traverse one would
appreciate under what difficult
condition our teams had to work to
achieve this progress.
Out of 36 locations at the two 765 KV S/C
lines; 2 locations have 6 Mtr Unequal Leg
Extensions While 28 have 3 Mtr. Unequal
Leg Extensions and out of 23 locations at
400 KV lines the corresponding figures are
2 & 20 respectively, making the excavation
work that much difficult.
As in the case for foundation works where
we had all workers & supervisory staff
medically tested & certified fit for high
altitude working, we put our erection teams
through the same procedure. Only, for
erection teams they had to be fit for
working in high winds and cold weather
conditions as well. Our boys have come
through successfully once again for the
umpteenth time.
Stringing is more a specialized activity in this
type of terrain. All towers being of tension
types make all the sections as single span.
This would mean all conductors need to be
measured & cut at nearest store point and
then head loaded through meandering hill
tracks. Our team is doing just that & under all
these difficult conditions have achieved a
progress of 7.500 KM.
Amongst all these eagerness to achieve &
further improve upon the output; safety has
been at the forefront of our concern. With all
our teams working at this type of
treacherous terrain & inclement weather
conditions not a single member of our teams
– foundation, erection & stringing, not a
single person suffered any injury.
