All actions of daily life are permissible (halal) unless there is
daleel or proof from the Quran and Sunnah that a certain action is
forbidden (haram)

• Actions of Worship (Ibaadah)


All actions of ibadah are forbidden (haram) unless there is daleel
or proof from the Quran and Sunnah that we have to do it
What is
ibaadah?

• Ibn Taymiyyah Defintion:


“…a comprehensive term, encompassing all apparent and
hidden acts and statements that are beloved to Allah.”

• Ibn Katheer’s Defintion:


“…a state which combines the perfection of love, submission
and fear.”
What qualifies
an act of
worship in the
sharee’ah?

• Anything that we classify as worship can only be for


Allah SWT. If it is done for other than Allah swt, the
person has gone against the shahada and has
committed shirk.

• Any act can be qualified as ibaadah if Allah loves it.


Ibaadah is
divided into 2
categories:

• Pure acts of worship


2 conditions are necessary for an act of worship to be accepted by Allah

• Acts that are not in and of themselves acts of


worship
"Actions are but by intentions and every man shall have only that which he
intended.”
(Bukhari & Muslim)
What is the
daleel for
fasting?

‫علَى الّذِينَ مِن‬


َ َ‫صيَامُ َكمَا ُك ِتب‬
ّ ‫عَل ْيكُمُ ال‬ َ َ‫يَا َأيّهَا الّذِينَ آ َمنُواْ ُك ِتب‬
َ‫َق ْبِلكُمْ َل َعّلكُمْ تَتّقُون‬
(Surah Al-Baqrah:183)

O you who believe! Observing As-Sawm is prescribed for


you as it was prescribed for those before you that you
may become Al-Muttaqun

The daleel for
wearing hijab

ّ‫جكَ َوبَنَا ِتكَ وَنِسَاء ا ْل ُم ْؤ ِمنِينَ يُ ْدنِينَ عَلَ ْيهِن‬


ِ ‫يَا َأ ّيهَا ال ّن ِبيّ قُل لَّ ْزوَا‬
‫لبِي ِبهِنّ َذِلكَ أَ ْدنَى أَن ُيعْرَفْنَ فَلَ ُيؤْ َذيْنَ َوكَانَ الُّ غَفُورًا‬ َ َ‫مِن ج‬
‫رّحِيمًا‬
(Surah Al-Ahzab:59)
O Prophet! Say to your wives, your daughters and the women of the
believers that they let down (yudnin) over themselves their over-
garments (jalaabib); this will be more proper, that they may be known,
and thus they will not be given trouble; and Allah is Forgiving, Merciful.
In general there are 2 types of
non-Muslims who ask questions on
Islam
• 1st type
Someone who is genuinely curious about Islam and want
to know more about the religion

• 2nd type
Someone who already has pre-conceived ideas or
prejudices about Islam and he/she asks in order to
mock and make fun of the religion
Salman Al-Farisi’s reaction

A Mushrik came (to Salman Al-Farisi) and asked "did


your friend (the Prophet SAW) teach you how to
defecate?" he said "yes he did", the Mushrik asked,
"What did he teach you?" "He forbade us to clean with
your right hand, and forbade us to face the qiblah, and
he forbade us to use the bones or dried excrement.“
(Muslim 262)
Conclusion
• Be proud of Islam and have 100%
confidence in our religion

• Learn more about Islam and find out


the daleel behind the commands and
prohibitions in Islam to understand the
hikmah behind why Allah has made
them halal or haram

• Even when we don’t understand the


hikmah behind certain commands and
prohibitions, always practice “sami’na
wa ata’na” (we listen and we obey) and
have full trust in Allah that it is what is
best for us
