MANGLISH
is the language that we use in everyday conversation. Malaysians tend to use English by mixing in some Malay words, Chinese and Tamil dialects.

THREE ASPECTS

PHONOLOGY
1) THE SHORT AND LONG VOWEL SOUND
-does

not distinguish between pairs of vowels that are distinct phonemes. -The vowel sounds which short and long sounds had been pronounced more or less the same.

2) THE CONSONANT SOUND -usually having difficulty

to pronounce especially at the ends of words and sentence pronunciation. -eliminate the last letter.

LEXIS
1) Vocabulary of word -some of the word used is not stated in dictionary & outdated word. -Standard English can be quite different in terms of the vocabulary and particularly the slang. -However, the grammar is almost the same for both.

2) The use of language -seem to have the ability to say everything using the minimum number of words possible. -sometimes be broken English. -Standard English usually use long sentence while having conversation and talks in a formal way.

Standard English: Ralph: we would like to have the bill now please, if you dont mind. Waiter: Certainly, sir. Malaysian English: Ruminah:Eh, boss...bill. Waiter: Okay-lah

3) Semantic shift -translated into English -comes from pidgin; a language which has develop from a mixture of two languages. -for eg: little-little must ask your wife

GRAMMAR
1) Tenses -In Malay style, instead tenses, they use words that show time references, which also called as time markers. -for eg: Last week, I go to Jusco sale. Everything is very cheap and I buy many things.

2) Subject-dropping -It is not only involved the informal setting but also in formal written texts. -In Standard English, the subject dropping is not possible. -The headline will be interpreted as a subject noun phrase and the reader need to provide the predicate for the sentence.
