A STUDY ON CORPORATE SOCIAL RESPONSIBILITY IN RINL

Visakhapatnam Steel Plant, popularly known as Vizag Steel is one of the major steel producers in India. Founded in 1971, the company focuses on producing value-added steel. VSP is a Member of United Nations Global Compact and adheres to the universally accepted ten principles of human rights, labour, environment and anti-corruption.

CORPORATE SOCIAL RESPONSIBILITY

Corporate social responsibility is a form of corporate self-regulation integrated into a business model. The goal of CSR is to embrace responsibility for the company's actions and encourage a positive impact through its activities on the environment, consumers, employees, communities, stakeholders and all other members of the public sphere who may also be considered as stakeholders.

OBJECTIVES
1. To understand the extent to which the corporate social responsibility activities provided by Visakhapatnam steel plant, towards society. 2. To know the activities that the Visakhapatnam steel plant performing for society. 3. To study how the people are benefitted by the csr activities by Visakhapatnam steel plant. 4. To know about the awards RINL acquired for their work in CSR.

(i) Environmental care (ii) Education (iii) Health care (iv) People care (v) Peripheral Development (vi) Cultural Efflorescence (vii) Activities as a responsible Corporate Citizen (viii) To extend help during natural calamities like Floods, Fire, epidemic etc.

AWARDS
RINL has bagged the CII-ITC Sustainability Award 2012. The Award is in recognition of initiatives taken up by RINL for sustainable development. RINL has bagged the IPE CSR Corporate Governance Award-2012. Award consists of a Statuette and a Citation in recognition of valuable contribution made by RINL practices. RINL bagged the Corporate Governance & Sustainability Vision Award 2012. The Award was presented by Indian Chamber of Commerce, Kolkata.

FINDINGS
According to my study in Vishakhapatnam steel plant it is found that the company has done many corporate social responsibility activities. And every activity is benefitted to the society. Its doing very well the activities and the beneficiaries are increasing. Vishakhapatnam steel plant takes very care when selecting a project it follows certain criteria. Vishakhapatnam steel plant focuses mainly on health care as it has conducted many awareness campaign and cancer, aids detection campaign to the backward people. Vishakhapatnam steel plant follows three criteria for approving the project for its implementation. Vishakhapatnam steel plant has conducted eye camps through Shankar eye foundation. Vishakhapatnam steel plant is planning to allocate 20crores approximately to csr activities this year.

SUGGESTIONS
After my survey was completed I came to know that Vishakhapatnam steel plant is doing a wonderful job. My suggestion would be although its doing the health campaigns in some areas and it would be better if it extends the services to some other areas. Now a days there are many children suffering from malnutrition so vishakasteelplant should focus in this area. There are many farmers who are suffering from lack of water for their fields so steel plant can help them in conserving rain water. There are many barriers for approving a social cause proposal, due to these barriers the company is not able to help the people who are in need. So I suggest reducing those barriers.

CONCLUSION
RINL has been doing many csr activities and they are also focusing all the areas where the help is required. Many people are benefitted through these activities and the cancer detection campaign has gained a very good response and the bus used for this detection has good equipment. As the company is polluting environment through the process of steel making its trying to get out of polluting by planting more trees and giving in return to environment.
