Concept of truth.
This is shown in Chapter 1, when Haroun loses his temper with his father and says to him, "What's the use of stories that aren't even true?" This theme is also shown in Chapters 2 and 3, when Haroun and Rashid are escorted to the Arabian Nights Plus One. The Dull Lake was affected by their moods and changed accordingly.
