Textbook
Feedback Control of Dynamic Systems
G.F. Franklin, J.D. Powell & A. Emami-Naeini 4th edition Prentice Hall, 2002

MCEN 467 Control Systems

Purpose of the Textbook

To introduce the most important techniques for single-input-single-output control system design.

MCEN 467 Control Systems

Textbooks Contents Covered

The content of the book is organized into 9 chapters and 7 appendixes.

Chapters 1 to 7 will be covered during the semester.

Advanced or enrichment materials (marked with a triangular blue icon in the table of contents) will be omitted.

MCEN 467 Control Systems

Outline of the Textbook

Chapter 1 presents the essential ideas of feedback and the generic components of a control system. Chapter 2 mainly reviews the techniques necessary to obtain the models of dynamic systems that we wish to control.
Chapter 3 covers dynamic response as used in control.

MCEN 467 Control Systems

Outline of the Textbook (contd)

Chapter 4 introduces the basic properties of feedback. An analysis of the effects of feedback on tracking accuracy, disturbance rejection, and sensitivity to parameter changes is presented. Following the overview of feedback, the core of the book presents the design methods based on root locus, frequency response & state space in chapters 5, 6 & 7 respectively.

Appendixes
They include background and reference material, such as: Laplace transform tables (appendix A), A review of complex variables (appendix B), A review of matrix theory (appendix C), A MATLAB command summary (appendix F), Solutions to review questions (appendix G).
