What is Respiratory Therapist?


Respiratory Therapist

perform diagnostic tests and deliver therapeutic treatment to patients with cardiopulmonary disorders.
Main responsibility is to

educate patients with asthma and educate patients how to manage COPD.

Duties
Diagnose cardiopulmonary disorders. Consult with physicians to develop patient treatment

plans. Perform diagnostic tests like measuring lung capacity. Perform chest physiotherapy treatment. Manage life support on intensive care patients. Administer inhaled drugs or gases ( Anesthesia). Educate patients to manage Asthma and Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD).

Examples: A disorder which Respiratory Therapists diagnose, treat, and educate about.

What does it take to be a Respiratory professional?


Takes 2-5 years of education. Complete required pre-requisites for RT program.

Apply for an AAS RSPT program at Nursing and

Allied Health campus. After two years in program student must register with NBRC and register for the Certified Respiratory Therapist (CRT)exam. Further education involves taking the Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) exam. Have a passion for this career.

Levels of certification
Level I NBRC exam: CRT- Certified Respiratory

Therapist exam is designed to objectively measure essential knowledge, skills, and abilities. The 3-hour examination consists of 160 multiple-choice questions distributed among three major content areas: clinical data, equipment, and therapeutic procedures.
Level II NBRC exam: RRT-Registered Respiratory

Therapist, this exam needs the CRT credential for admission to the Registry Examination. The RRT Examination consist of a written portion and a clinical simulation portion
