About Libya
Libya is a country in the Maghreb region of North Africa bordered by the Mediterranean Sea to the north, Egypt to the east, Sudan to the southeast, Chad and Niger to the south, and Algeria and Tunisia to the west. With an area of almost 1.8 million square kilometers (700,000 sq mi), Libya is the third largest country in Africa by area, and the 17th largest in the world. The largest city and capital, Tripoli, is home to 1.7 million of Libya's 6.4 million people. The three traditional parts of the country are Tripolitania, Fezzan and Cyrenaica. In 2009 Libya had the highest HDI (Human Development Index) in Africa and the fourth highest GDP (Gross Domestic Product) per capita in Africa, behind Seychelles, Equatorial Guinea and Gabon. Libya has the 10th-largest proven oil reserves of any country in the world and the 17th-highest petroleum production.

About Libya
The Libyan economy depends primarily upon revenues from the petroleum sector, which contributes practically all export earnings and over half of GDP. Since 2000, Libya has recorded favorable growth rates with an estimated 10.6% growth of GDP in 2010. In 2009 the gross domestic product (GDP) reached 62 billion dollars and the GDP per capita has reached 12,020 dollars which has enabled Libya to be ranked among the fifty most prosperous countries. In 2007, Libya is the most developed country in Africa if we refer to the HDI established by the United Nations Program for Development, it was 0.840.

Demographics of Libya
- Population density is about 50 persons per km (130/sq. mi.) - About 88% of the population is urban, mostly concentrated in the three largest cities, Tripoli, Benghazi and Misrata. - Libya has a population of about 6.5 million, around half of whom are under the age of 15. - About 2.5 million foreign workers contributing to the functioning of the country's economy. - In 1984 the population reached 3.6 million and was growing at about 4% a year, one of the highest rates in the world. - Most of the population has occupations in industry and services, and a small percentage is in agriculture. - In 2007, Libya had 290 motor vehicles per 1000 people.
