General English (GE)


Intrax offers 10 levels of English from Basic to Proficient. Our curriculum is written to match the standards of the C.E.F. (Common European Framework). The GE classes are divided into two parts: Integrated Skills: 8:30am 10:55am grammar, vocabulary, listening and reading skills are all taught in integrated, self-guided lessons. Speaking Strand: 11:05am 13:35pm vocabulary, speaking and listening skills are taught in this class.

General English
Skills Class emphasizes reading, writing, listening, speaking and integrates grammar and vocabulary, for both speaking and writing in English. Speaking Class emphasizes speaking clearly and confidently with native speakers. To change your level, please speak with your teacher. To change your classes, please speak with Mike or Rob.

Business English
Benefits of Business English Classes: Learn English that is useful in any professional environment Gain insight into how and when English is used in professional environments around the world Practice reading, writing, listening, speaking, grammar and vocabulary for use in business settings such as meetings, conferences or virtual teams Use authentic examples from U.S. companies and organizations to learn the English you will use at work Complete projects and case studies to add to your online portfolio

Course Changes
Students who are enrolled for 12+ weeks must stay in their course program (General English, Business English, TOEFL) for at least 4 weeks. Each course program change will need to have 4 weeks attendance in that course program before another change can be made.

Example: If you are studying here for 24 weeks and start in General English, you need to stay in General English for 4 weeks before changing to another course.

Grades
Every week your teacher will give you 3 grades: Grade 1: AttendanceYou must have 80% attendance in your class. If you drop below 80% attendance, you will receive a warning letter and will not receive a certificate of completion. Grade 2: Tests/HomeworkAssignments or Tests given and graded by your teacher. Grade 3:ParticipationYour attendance and participation graded by your teacher. * * * You can check your grades on Sakai at all times * * *

On your last week at Intrax, you must take the Exit Exam to receive your certificate of completion. **To take the exit exam, come to the front desk by 2:30pm on Wednesday. Graduation is every Thursday at 12:50 pm**

Keep Our School Clean!


Kitchen: Please wash any dishes you use and put them away. DO NOT throw food in the sink use the compost (GREEN) can for food you do not want! Fridges are cleaned out every Friday. Any leftover food will be thrown away. Keep your lunches in the fridge or the student cabinets

REMEMBER. Things to know in the US


Consuming alcohol is illegal in the US if you are under the age of 21! Smoking is illegal indoors, and outdoors you must be 25 feet (10 meters) from any open door or you will be fined $100 or more. Tipping is expected. Tips are the main part of the income for many Americans. A few guidelines: At a bar: tip $1-2 per drink At a restaurant: tip 15-20% of the total bill To a taxi driver: tip 10-15% of the fare At a hair salon/spa: tip 15-20% of the total bill

Please be aware of your surroundings at all times, and be vigilant when using your smartphone, especially on public transportation!

Administrative Policies
If you want to EXTEND:

You must pay on the Friday before the end of your program F-1 Students MUST bring a new bank statement at least 10 days before their I-20 expires. *ALWAYS BE AWARE OF YOUR I-20 EXPIRATION DATE*

Attendance
General English:
If you arrive to school more than 15 minutes late, you will not be allowed to enter your Integrated Skills class. You may enter during one of the scheduled breaks, but you will be marked absent for your Integrated Skills class. If you are more than 15 minutes late to your Speaking class, you will be marked absent for that class and will not be allowed to enter the classroom.

Business English, Professional Certificates and TOEFL:


If you arrive more than 15 minutes late, you will not be allowed to enter your class. You may go to your class during one of the scheduled breaks, but you will be marked absent for the whole class.

All Students:
You will also be marked absent if you leave from your class more than 15 minutes early.

Attendance
Warning Letters
If your attendance drops below 80% you will receive 1 warning letter 3 warning letters = terminated from Intrax with no refund and no certification You must turn in documentation such as a doctors note to the administration office no later than ONE WEEK after your absence if you do not want the absence to be reflected in your final attendance.

Transfer
F-1 students must have attendance above 80% to transfer to another school. If your overall attendance is below 80%, you are not eligible to transfer to another school in Active status. Your I-20 will be Terminated, and then transferred, and you must pursue a Reinstatement at your new school.

Students with F-1 visas (I-20s) are REQUIRED by the Government to attend class for at least 80% of their program

Vacation Policy
Students must study 12 weeks before taking vacation time, with a maximum of 4 weeks of vacation at any one time. Vacation is allowed as follows: 12 weeks of Consecutive study = 2 weeks vacation 24 weeks or more of consecutive study (with no previous vacation) = 4 weeks vacation

Students must have good grades and 80% or higher attendance when submitting a vacation request.

Travel and Health Insurance


We strongly recommend all students have travel/health insurance AVI Travel and Health Insurance covers : Medical Care so you can go see a doctor if you get sick Medical Emergencies if you have to go to a hospital Emergency Dental Care if you have a tooth emergency Stolen Personal Items (iPod, iPad, Wallet, luggage, etc) so you can get your money back All of the above if you are visiting another country or city during your time at Intrax You can buy AVI Insurance in the Administration Office

Refunds: Please request them in the administration office


No Refund If you have studied MORE than 60% of your program: For example: You have paid for 10 weeks of classes. You have studied 8 weeks of classes but you need to go back to your home country. You have studied 80% of your program. Can you get a refund? No Refund If you have studied LESS than 60% of your program: For example: You have paid for 10 weeks of classes. You have studied 5 weeks of classes but need to go back to your home country. You have studied 50% of your program. Can you get a refund? YES! 100% of your UNUSED tuition.

**Medical Insurance purchased through Intrax and all other Fees will not be refunded.

Tomorrow, come to Intrax at 8:15 to receive your schedule and books at the front desk. If you forgot any of your documents today, come at 8 AM and your schedule and books will be in the Administration office.
Please do NOT write in your textbook the first week!
