After completing this topic, you will be able to identify who can initiate a restore operation.

30

Who Can Perform a Restore?

Administrator

Push a restore to the destination client.

Pull a restore to the client. User-directed or client-directed restores Alternate-client restores

User

31

Enabling Alternate Client Restores

By default, NetBackup permits restores only to the client from which the files were backed up. To enable alternate client restores, create the directory:
/usr/openv/netbackup/db/altnames (UNIX) or install path\NetBackup\db\altnames (Windows)

One of the following two file types can be created:

peername: enables alternate client restores No.Restrictions: enables alternate client restore permissions for all users

Caution should be taken when using the No.Restrictions file because it removes permission requirements.
32

Defining Client Attributes (UNIX)

bpclient

33

Defining Client Attributes (Windows)

bpclient

34

Additional Considerations
True image restore (TIR) restores at the directory level. Verify the correct (or desired) time zone setting. NetBackup can resolve links (default behavior) so that paths point to the actual files or directories. NetBackup restores files according to the original file pathname.
Overwrite only with permission.

35

Topic 3: Troubleshooting Restore Issues

After completing this topic, you will be able to troubleshoot the most common restore issues.

36

Troubleshooting Restores
Common restore problems: Create log directories in:

Incorrect restore criteria Interpretation of restore directives Insufficient disk space for restores Improper file permissions Access control lists

UNIX /usr/openv/netbackup/ logs/bplist /usr/openv/netbackup/ logs/bprestore Windows install path\NetBackup\ logs\bplist install path\NetBackup\ logs\bprestore
