TRIALLED LIKE A HUMAN SUFFERED LIKE A HUMAN DIED LIKE A GOD

Marks Gospel

JESUS TRIAL WHAT HAPPENED

We that when Jesus is taken to the council we see that the whole council are against him as Mark writes the whole council were looking for testimony against Jesus to put him to death; but they found none (14:55). We also see that there are false testimonies put against him by the crowd such as I will destroy the temple that is made with hands and in three days I will build another, not made with hands (14:58). The false testimonies go on and then Jesus replies saying that the Son of Man seated at the right hand of the Power and coming with the clouds of heaven (14:62). A significant action is made by the high priest as he tore at Jesus clothes in anger at his remark. Next is Jesus before Pilate, and when Pilate asks Are you the King of the Jews? (15:2) Jesus answers the question but difficultly as he says you say so. We later see in this passage that Jesus answers no further questions. Part of Jesus trial is for him to be handed over. At this Pilate knows that Jesus is innocent and at the pass over rule of handing over a prisoner tries to set him free but the chief priests out of jealousy again (they handed him over because of it) stir up the crowd to have Barabbas released instead. Finally there is a more crucial part to this is that the crowd (the Jews) are the one that shout Crucify him!

JESUS TRIAL - EVALUATION

Firstly in my opinion I think that the main reason behind the way the council is against him is because all through Jesus mission he made the chief priests jealous by taking all the popularity by preaching and making them look foolish And the large crowd was listening to him with delight (12:37). Again through jealously I found that the chief priests were more than determined to put Jesus away as he was such an abnormality. Now when the high priest rips at Jesus clothes I think it is that Jesus has said the unspeakable and the disgust and rage the high priest gets at this makes him rip at the clothing of Jesus We see that Jesus talks to the Council but not to Pilate. In my opinion I feel he does this as it is a religious matter and passion and not a political crime. Even though Jesus has not committed a political crime the council need to make one as Pilate (a gentile) did not care about the religious laws but treason was a very large crime. This is why they call Jesus The King of the Jews.

I did also find that all of this was prophesised by Isaiah 53:* were he says He was arrested, sentenced, and led off to die
Finally I also feel that is was important that the Jews shouted Crucify him! as to me it showed that Jesus was not a political leader but the Messiah.

JESUS SUFFERING WHAT HAPPENED

We first see Jesus suffer when he is flogged in front of the crowd to please them after they shouted Crucify him! (15:13). means the place of the skull (15:22) and offer him wine mixed with myrrh but he refuses it. They then crucified him dividing up his clothes among them casting lots. When they crucified him it was 9 Oclock.

This suffering is continued when Jesus is mocked by the soldiers. They wrapped a purple cloak around him and twist some thorns into a crown (15:17). Next they beat Jesus with a reed, spat upon him (15:19). During the crucifixion he has to carry his cross and a man called Simon of Cyrene (15:21) it pulled into help Jesus carry it. They bring him up to Golgotha (which

He then takes on some mockery from the crowd such as He saved others; he cannot save himself (15:31)
Finally at the end of his suffering the two bandits that are crucified with him taunted him.

JESUS SUFFERING - EVALUATION

I think that the reason Jesus was flogged in front of the crowd was because of Pilate trying to gain popularity from the Jewish people. When we see Jesus mocked by the soldiers it is both an emotional suffering and a physical one. For the emotional is when they pretend he is king by putting a purple cloak around in and then when they knelt down in homage to him (15:19). Then the physical suffering is the beating him with a read and put a crown of thorns on his head. I feel they did this just to show to Jesus that nobody cared in his mission hence the crown of thorns to prove he is a fake king. We do also see an fantastic example of Markan irony as the soldiers say Hail, King of the Jews. Yet they beat him and spit on him. In my view I think that Markan irony is when someone is very sincere about an opinion then goes in the completely opposite direction. Another example of this would be saying that Jesus saved many (one opinion) but cannot even save himself. (another opinion). To me I think that Simon of Cyrene was a random person brought in by the roman soldiers but is included as part of Marks detail. Wine with myrrh is offered to Jesus because crucifixion was so painful that the wine and myrrh worked as a pain killer so to help the bandit through it. The reason that Jesus refuses it is because at the last supper Jesus says I will never drink of the fruit of the vine until that day when I drink it new in the kingdom of God (14:25). This means that Jesus will never drink wine again on earth which implied that when he needed a pain killer he refused it to suffer fully

When they bet on Jesus clothes it supports again the prophecy made in psalms 22:18 which says They divide my clothes among them and cast lots for my garment.
When I read that the two other bandits crucify him I was confused as the story is different in other Gospels. However I think the reason the taunt him is because they had a valid reason to be crucified so essentially they had it coming but Jesus was foolish to say was he said hence the mockery .

JESUS IS DEAD WHAT HAPPENED

When it was noon darkness occur until three in the afternoon. At three Jesus cries Eloi, Eloi, lema sabachthani which means My God, My God, why have you forsaken me? (15:34) They bystanders heard this and thought he was calling for Elijah. Then someone ran to Jesus with a sponge filled with sour wine put on a stick. After Jesus gives a loud cry and dies the curtain of the temple was torn in two. A centurion comments to him saying Truly this man was Gods Son! There were three women still at the cross named Mary Magdalene and Mary mothe of James the younger and of Joses and Salome.

JESUS IS DEAD - EVALUATION

Light normally came at 6 Oclock, Jesus died at 9 Oclock and darkness came at noon. This shows to us that when Jesus died presumably God made darkness come over the land to show that awful death. happened to Jesus.

Jesus is not asking a question when he says My God, My God, why have you forsaken me he is saying a prayer but dies before he gets the chance to finish it. An example put to me about this is if a religious Christian person was put at gun point they would start to say the Our Father but half way through it they may be shot. This is a modern example of what

Now to some when the curtain is torn in two they do not understand. However the reason this happens is because only the high priest could go into the holy of holies behind the curtain but Jesus has released it to everybody.
When the centurion say that Jesus was Gods son it shows to us that Jesus did not just come for Jews but for Gentiles as well. There are only women there at the end of Jesus life. This can either show that the disciple fled like Jesus prophesied or that they women were just very loyal followers.
