Political System
The Communist Party of China is the countrys sole political party in power. The socialist system The socialist system led by the working class and based on the alliance of the workers and farmers is the fundamental system of the Peoples Republic of China All rights belong to the people All the power in the country belongs to the people who exercise their power through the National Peoples Congress

The National Peoples Congress (NPC) and local peoples congresses are established through democratic elections, responsible to and supervised by the people. The NPC is composed of deputies elected from the provinces, autonomous regions and municipalities directly under the Central Government and deputies elected by the armed forces. The NPC is elected for a term of five years.

Environment
China has a variety of forest types. Bamboo is a very fast growing plant. An interesting tree found in China is the ginkgo or maidenhair tree which is used in Chinese medicine. It is one of the world's earliest surviving plant species and first grew 160 million years ago. Wildlife - Tigers, Snow Leopards, Monkeys, Yaks and Giant Pandas. Birdlife includes peacocks, parrots, cranes and storks China's natural environment has been adversely affected by human intervention in a number of ways. Deforestation has gone on for many years. In 1978 steps were taken to protect the environment. There is now a programme of tree planting and a national conservation organization looks at the consequences for the environment of using pesticides and chemicals.

Technology

Legal system
Legal reform became a government priority in the 1990s. The 1994 Administrative Procedure Law allows citizens to sue officials for abuse of authority or malfeasance. The criminal law amendments abolished the crime of "counter-revolutionary, while criminal procedures reforms encouraged establishment of a more transparent, adversarial trial process. The PRC Constitution and laws provide for fundamental human rights.
