Definitions of Habitats

It is an ecological or environmental area that is inhabited by a particular species.


Microhabitat - home to very small creatures

Human habitat - environment in which human beings live, work, play


Animal habitat - environment in which animals live.

What is happening to our habitats?

Reduction of natural habitats - destruction


Degradation - The diminishment of habitat quality. Fragmentation - Disassembly of terrestrial habitats. Pollution - Drainage water, industrial waste, etc. Desertification - loss of deserts.

Deforestation - loss of forests.

How can we save our habitats?

Get involved with habitat issues in your community Maintain your own backyard to benefit animals and plants. Eliminate chemical fertilizers and pesticides. Educating the public about natural habitats and bio-diversity. Protecting remaining intact sections of natural habitat.

Management and Sustainment Plan


Action Items Research and identify the effects of loss of habitats. Action Steps Review environmental Web sites and journals. Document the sources of loss of habitats. Provide both environmental and economic effects of loss of habitats. Document video interviews of environmental researchers and facilitators. Develop a presentation about why this program is needed and include the ill effects of loss of habitats, the lifestyle changes that will be required, and the benefits and challenges of change. Develop a presentation about what we can do to help resolve the problems of loss of habitats on a global level. Contact local government agencies and get information on creating a non-profit group to support the cause. Create a charter for the group. Hold rallies to recruit supporters. Solicit to new members to keep an eye on the groups causing habitat losses. Create a plan of action to expose violators. Attend regional lobbyist meetings to present the benefits of the programs. Request to be added to the agenda of each group to keep an active presence. Document the audio and visual equipment needed for presentation and layout of each meeting place. Timeline Month 1-3
