Research Objectives and Hypothesis

What are research objectives?

The objectives of a research project summarize what is to be achieved by the study. These objectives should be closely related to the research problem.

Research Objectives and Hypothesis

Identifying Research Objectives:

Task 1: Brainstorming
Task 2: Identifying research objectives
a. What is this research work for? b. What am I supposed to do during my research work? c. What am I supposed to achieve?

Research Objectives and Hypothesis

Identifying Research Objectives:

Task 3: General and specific actions

For example: - Specific action = Make questionnaires / Process test results - General action =Distinguish significant variables - and give feedback to the field of practice

Suggestion: Use the verbs in the infinitive

Task 4: Formulating general and specific research objectives.

Formulate the general and specific objectives taking into account the actions to be performed and using the most suitable verbs to state specific actions: e.g. to identify, to describe, to analyze, to

demonstrate, etc.

Identifying Research Objectives:

Task 5: Self- check

Check if the objectives are related to the research problem. If they are well related to the research problem, edit your objectives to make sure you have stated them in a clear, accurate and correct way. Write down your objectives.

Additional task:

To make sure your research objectives are clear enough, you can ask someone who doesnt know a thing about your research topic, to read the aims you have formulated. By this task you can verify the clearness of your formulation.

HYPOTHESIS:
Introduction:

Often, one of the trickiest parts of designing and writing up any research paper is how to write a hypothesis.

Research Objectives and Hypothesis

Hypothesis defined:
Hypotheses are testable explanations of a problem, phenomenon, or observation. A hypothesis (plural hypotheses) is a proposed explanation for a phenomenon. A hypothesis is an explanation for something that has been observed.

- a good hypothesis must be based on a good research question at the start of a trial and, indeed, drive data collection for the study.

Research Objectives and Hypothesis

The 3 kinds of hypothesis:

1. Alternative - this is the hypothesis that is affirmative, positive, and approving. This gives a positive possible result of the experiment.

2. Null - this is a negative hypothesis about the experiment.

Research Objectives and Hypothesis

The 3 kinds of hypothesis:

3. Cause and Effect - this kind of hypothesis gives a cause and effect hypothesis. This has the "if & then" clause...... (Example: "if sunlight affects the growth of plants, then it might slow down or fasten the plant's growth.")

How to Write a Hypothesis?

1. Understand the purpose

The purpose of a hypothesis is to help

create testable parameters through which

information can be gained. Stated simply, it

creates a specific informational goal to be explored.

How to Write a Hypothesis? Example:

A chemistry hypothesis: If I mix sodium bicarbonate with an acidic substance, a reaction will occur. A biology hypothesis: If a rabbit is raised with dogs, it will exhibit dog-like behavior.

How to Write a Hypothesis?

A historical hypothesis: If economic socialism

is enacted on a national scale, then significant effects will be observed in both the local and national economies. An anthropological hypothesis: If new and better materials are introduced to a culture, then that culture will attempt to increase its ability to acquire those materials.

2. Understand the scope.

While a hypothesis is usually used for

studying the sciences, it is not limited to those

disciplines. A hypothesis can be applied to

and tested for subjects ranging from history to

English.
