Printed Circuit Boards are primarily an insulating material used as base, into which conductive strips are printed. The base material is generally fibreglass, and the conductive connections are generally copper and are made through ab etching process. The main PCB board is called the MOTHERBOARD and smaller attachment PCBs are called Daughterboard.

The history of printed circuit board, wiring board and PCB all describe a device that provides electrical interconnections and a surface for mounting electronic components. Although " wiring board" is more technically correct, the term "printed circuit board" (PCB) is most commonly used.

STEP 1: FILM GENERATION The film is generated from the design files (gerber files) which are sent to the manufacturing house. One film is generated per layer.

STEP 2: RAW MATERIAL Industry standard 0.059 thick, copper clad panel.

STEP 3: DRILL HOLES Using NC machines and carbide drills to drill holes according to the drill spec sent to the manufacturing house.

STEP 4: ELECTROLESS COPPER Apply thin copper deposit in hole barrels.

STEP 5: APPLY IMAGE Apply photosensitive dry film to panel and use a light source and the film to expose the panel.

STEP 6: PATTERN PLATE Electrochemical process to build copper in the holes and on the trace areas. Apply tin to surface.

STEP 7: STRIP AND ETCH Remove the dryfilm, and then etch the exposed copper. The tin protects the copper circuitry from being etched away.

STEP 8: SOLDER MASK Apply a solder mask area to the entire board with the exception of solder pads.

STEP 9: SOLDER COAT Apply solder to pads by immersing into tank of solder. Hot air knives level the solder when removed from the tank.

STEP 10: NOMENCLATURE Apply white letter markings using screen printing process.

SINGLE SIDED PCBs

DOUBLE SIDED PCBs

Single-sided PCB is the simplest printed circuit board, these boards don't require plated through holes and only have a circuit pattern on one side. Quite often single-sided boards are referred to 'punch and crunch' due to the fact that high volume runners are profiled with tool and die.

MANUFACTURING PROCESS

It is easy to manufacture. Therefore, any manufacturer of double-sided or multilayer PCBs can produce single-sided ones as well. It is cheap since several critical manufacturing steps are not included.

This circuit board has severe limitations when it comes to routing the wires in the conductor pattern (since there is only one side no wires can cross, and they have to be routed around each other). It is only used in very primitive circuits.

These circuit boards are used to electrically connect and mechanically support electronic components with the help of conductive pathways.
These are broadly used in inverters, uninterruptible power supply, computers and allied products.

It is a kind of circuit board that has tracks etched on both sides of the board. This configuration allows for more compact designs, or when space limits the use of extra boards. Double sided PCBs are a common tool in both production and prototype circuits.

Double sided boards allow

a higher density of component.

It increases heat dissipation

that an extra layer of copper provides

Double sided pcb board which is known for its excellent performance and user friendliness. These are available in various thickness & widths and extensively used in electronic assembly and other similar applications.

Multi-layer PCB boards are the norm for complex designs, in particular those which have size constraints.

Mechanical Layers are special in that they can be added or viewed in any layer.

Solder mask is usually the green coating on a PCB board which is designed to insulate and protect the underlying copper traces from environmental factors, and is also used to prevent bridging (shorting) traces during wave soldering

The silkscreen layer is also known as Overlay. Top Overlay refers to the silkscreen on top of the board, and Bottom Overlay refers to silkscreen on bottom
