Problems with the Big Bang Model?

The Flatness Problem

The Universe appears relatively flat but how? Models

1.

2.

The Big Crunch- Too much matter, and the universe eventually collapses in on itself under the influence of its own gravitational pull. The Big Chill- Too little matter, and gravity will not be able to halt the expansion of the universe

Resolution = Inflation

The flatness problem is resolved because the act of inflation actually flattens the universe.

Inflation: The Problem Solver

The Horizon Problem

How nearly identical temperatures were established in independent cosmic domains? The inflationary theory resolves the horizontal problem by slowing the speed with which the regions were separating very early on, providing them ample time to come to the same temperature.

Resolution = Inflation

Inflationary Multiverses

Inflationary theory in cosmology predicts an expansive universe filled with "bubble universes," of which our universe is just one.

In fact, separate universes spring up as bubbles of space-time undergoing its own form of expansion, under the rules dictated by inflation theory. The laws of physics in these universes could be very different from our own. It can be compared to and visualized in the form of Swiss cheese

Previous Criticisms

How is Inflation related to quantum mechanics?

Quantum mechanics is indeed related to inflation.

Before inflation occurred in the Big Bang, matter was very tiny, and to measure that tiny matter we must use quantum mechanics. Thus , for tiny matter, we use quantum theory and mechanics as a means to describe it. Whereas, for huge amounts of matter, one utilizes relativity as a means of description and explanation.

Criticism of the Big Bang

Does the Big Bang violate the fundamental law of conservation of energy and mass?

No, the Big Bang theory does not violate the law of conservation of energy and mass.

The conservation of matter and energy states that the total amount of mass and energy at one time is the same at any other time. The Big Bang did not break the conservation laws because time itself is part of the universe and started at the Big Bang and because the conservation laws need to have time in their statements.

Criticism of Observation

How can we believe theories of inflationary multiverses, when we cannot even observe them?

Just because we cannot observe a theory does not mean it is not a scientific truth.
For example, we cannot observe atoms but we know through mathematical calculations that they exist. If atoms did not exist then we would not exist and neither would life on earth as well.

Criticism of Inflation

One issue with the inflationary theory is that the exact mechanism that would cause and then turn off the inflationary period isnt known?
