Double page spread

NME
Design
Like the contents page it is clear this double page spread was created using a grid and in this case four columns per page. This means the text and the images are set out clearly and this was previously seen in the contents page. The thin black line has also been continued to these pages and this highlights the structure as well as the guttering between each section. Unlike Teen Now and Top Of The Pops, there is a balance between images and text. This is because of the purpose of this page is to inform the reader by a detailed article. The same font has been used to create the title of this page which again looks like a heading youd see in a newspaper and this is emphasised by the strap line beneath it. It is safe to say this double page spread does have a newspaper design because of the nature of the information; the left hand side is a feature on the band and the right is an interview between the editor and band. There is no drop capital in this article and this is one feature I would expect because of the newspaper influence, however it is not conventional. The right hand side column is highlighted blue to attract the readers eye and the pull quote between each body of text, breaks up the page as well as quickly informing the reader of what's in the text. The various images on the right hand page also break the text up and the text has been wrapped around each image, this link it all together. Serif fonts are used in this double page spread because of the newspaper format it makes the text easier to read. The blue right hand column shows the only variation in fonts with some sans serif as that brings in a modern element. Overall, the left hand page follows a newspaper format and the right hand page introduces more magazine conventions

Overall Impression
I feel out of all three magazines, this is the one that continues the house style the best because it uses the same fonts and colours. I feel this is because the more mature target audience would expect this, where as for the others the younger target audience want a more fun magazine and this was shown by the colours and scattering of images

Language
Formal language is used in this double page spread, this is because of the older target audience it is trying to attract because they would use more formal language rather than colloquial language. There is aspects of informal language with the right hand side interview and this is because of the interview style

Colours
The dominant black and white colours continue to create the newspaper feel this magazine conveys and the introduction of the new colour dull blue, gives the page some life and means its not to plain as it is a magazine not a newspaper. This limited colour scheme would attract the target audience because they are all colours associated with males.

Images
The images on both pages are fairly dark and with limited colours. This creates the serious tone which has been conveyed through the front cover and contents page. The target audience would expect these images because of the genre of magazine. The main image shows the album cover of Arcade Fire which has a direct link to the article below. The image of the man in the text on the right hand page suggests an element of rebellion and the target audience would be attract to this as it shows there idols personality.

Colours
The colour red is a new colour which has been introduced on this double page spread. It has replaced the pink and blue previously seen on both front cover and contents. I feel this is to limit the colour scheme to three colours- red, yellow and white as these all complement each other. The title of this page is along the entire two pages in a red banner which makes it the brightest and boldest feature on the page and therefore drawing your eyes to want to find out what the hottest news is. White is used as the background colour on both page which links to the heading and border round some images. The yellow highlights the important short key pieces of information, evident here by some puffs.

Teen Now

Pose, style, hair & make up All of these images are of celebrities out and having fun. This means theyre represented in a different light to what wed normally see them, and shows that theyre real people and the target audience will connect with this as they may do the same things they do. The fun factor is reflected by their facial expressions and props such as the chefs hat and bug hand on Olly Murs Language There is a mixture of formal and informal language on this cover. The main bodies of text are quote formal, however the speech bubbles are made up to make it seem like the celebrities are talking to you and this appeals to the audience as it makes them feel included in the story. There are many abbreviations 1D HIT OZ and puns Pasta album, this is because the band one direction are known in the media as 1D and the puns continue the fun theme

Overall Impression
I feel these two pages represent what I expected from looking at the front cover and contents page. Theyve adapted the colour scheme well and in cooperated all the picture by matching colours, colloquial language which adds up to the scrap book/ pin board feel it has

Design and Images Both pages are busy with images of all shapes and sizes. The main focus is the story of 1D HIT OZ with three images and piece of text to anchor the story and images, the fact theyre square and have a thin border make them look like images from a camera which have been stuck into the page- creating the scrap book feel which was dominant in the contents page. This feel is continued over on the right hand page with the slanted position of images and variation in sizes. There is some text to anchor the images and the bold subheadings uses to draw you into each story. There is a huge range of fonts with a mixture of serif and sans serif and this reflects the pin board feel it has.

Top Of The Pops

Colours
The colour scheme is nearly identical to the front cover, with pink, yellow and blue however they are different shades. This unlike the contents page continues the aspect of the house style whereas the contents page didnt. I feel the colours have been clamed down to a softer shade because of the style of the page- to many colours and to much information could make the reader feel the page is to busy.

Pose, style, hair & make up

The far left hand column sees celebrities looking relaxed because of there casual clothes and especially the two girls from little mix eating a takeaway. The target audience would like this because it shows them as real people and not just stereotypical glamorous celebrities so can relate to them more. Union J and Connor Maynard have their arms around each other and this creates a friendly atmosphere, reiterated by their smiles. The scattered photos below the main image also show Connor doing random fun stuff which adds to this fun factor.

Language
Informal chatty language is used on this double page spread which was first evident on the front cover, carried through to the contents page and also carried through to this double page spread., represented in this case for example by the speech bubbles placed next to the celebrities to make them seem like they are talking to you. The audience would like this because they dont expect to see formal complex language because of their age as its something youd expect an older more mature older person to read

Overall Impression
I think magazine successfully carries through the house style which has been established but the front cover and contents page. It has some differences but I feel this is because of the nature of the page

Design and Images

This double page spread is covered more by images than text but the biggest piece of text on this page is BACKSTAGE BANTER and this has a direct link with one of the cover lines on the front cover and contents page. It is acting as a masthead where as conventionally there would be a title for this page. The fact its spread across the two pages and in a bold sans serif font, capital letters and bright colour makes it the focus point of the page. The image also reflects this because it covers the majority of the page and the text follows the angle of the of the photo. Half of the left hand page is filled with a clear column feature three artists. It is filled with mostly images and the only text is that that has been used to anchor the images. The bottom third of the entire right hand page and half left hand page has been filled with various pictures scattered across it. These images with little text above/next to/below, create a scrap book feel not yet seen in this magazine but more in Teen Now. The target audience would be attracted towards this element because theyre the age group most likely to make scrap/collage books
