HOSTELS FACILITIES

Bahra University offers comprehensive hostel facilities for both boys and

girls students within the University Campus. We are aware that most of our students are moving away from home for the first time, so we strive to make the transition as smooth as possible by offering comfortable and safe Hostels within the Campus providing homely atmosphere. At present there is covered area of 45439.47 Sq. Ft. having 64 rooms in boys hostel I and 48 rooms in Boys hostel II with bed capacity of 192 and 184 respecting. Similarly there is covered area of 30553 Sq. Ft. having 48 rooms for girls hostel with bed capacity of 144. Each room of the hostel is shared by three students. All the hostels rooms are spacious and well ventilated with attached bathroom and adequate furniture and cupboards. Each bathroom is provided with Geyser. Since there is water shortage in this area, the University authorities have deployed round the clock water tankers to ensure24 hrs. Uninterrupted Water Supply. Similarly to ensure uninterrupted power supply in the hostels the University authorities have invested huge amount for the installation of Generator Sets in the Campus of 250 kw and 62.5 kw capacity.

Shopping Complex and Tuck Shop


In order to attend the daily needs of the students, a

shopping complex has been opened inside the University Campus where students can buy all the daily need items, books and Stationery etc. Laundry facilities and a well-equipped Tuck Shop are also available within the Campus. In order to provide newspaper and magazines facilities to the hostel students, it has been ensured that the University library remains open till 8pm in the night. Similarly to provide computer facilities to the hostel students the computer center of the University with net facilities remains open till 8pm in the night.

Hostel Admin & Security


In order to look after the welfare of hostel students and to ensure

proper discipline in Boys and Girls hostels, Residential Wardens, one each male and female have been employed who are available in the hostels 24 hours. Two Wardens, one male and one female from amongst faculty members have also been deployed who keep proper watches on all the activities of hostel students during day and night. Further to enforce better discipline amongst the resident students, the University has appointed one Ex-Army personnel as General Manager (Administration) who resides in the hostel building and is available 24 hrs. in the hostel even on Sundays and Holidays who, besides other duties also performs duties as Chief Warden. students proper security arrangements are made 24 hours by deploying Security Guards round the clock including Boys and Girls hostels.

MAINTENANCE
There are proper House Keeping and Maintenance Departments

who take care of cleanliness and timely repair of hostel buildings and its surroundings. For this purpose the House Keeping Department of the University has engaged one Supervisor and 20 other staff including Sweepers etc. Similarly for maintenance purpose of the Campus and other Buildings, the University has established Maintenance Department with one supervisor and 29 other personnel who include Plumbers, Electricians, Masons, Painters and Carpenters etc. In order to ensure immediate repair of water supplies and electricity defects one Plumber and Electrician are deployed in these buildings round the clock.

DISPENSARY
In order to look after the health needs of the Resident students,

there is a full-fledged dispensary in the University which takes care of all the ailing students and also attend to emergency requirement s of the students .One Doctor and one Nursing Assistant are always present in the hostel premises. The University has also made provision for 24 hours Emergency Ambulance service which remains on duty round the clock in the University Campus.

HOSTEL COMMITTEE
In order to regulate the working of both the hostels proper

record of all the activities is maintained and for this purpose 8 Registers are maintained separately in each hostel in which regular entries are made on day to day basis. To ensure smooth and coordinated functioning of the hostels, Hostel Committees are constituted in which the students, both boys and girls are given due representation. In order to improve the functioning of the hostels and to run these efficiently, regular meetings of these Hostel Committees are being held. the Resident students are required to abide by these Rules.

MESS FACILITIES

Mess facility is one of the major welfare activities of the University for Residential

students. Day Scholars, Faculty and Staff members of University takes pride in providing quality wholesome food and excellent personalized service to all. To achieve this end no compromise is made and the best practices are followed by engaging experienced staff. In Bahra University we have two separate Mess halls for boys and girls. The capacity of boys mess hall is 250 and that of girls mess hall is 150 to dine at a time. There are separate enclosures for guest & faculty. At present the Mess, both for boys and girls are manned by one Manager, one Assistant Manager and 22 others supporting staff .Special care is taken to provide whole some , nutritious, healthy and quality food to all dinning members as per timings set by the management. It is ensured to maintain the highest standard of cleanliness and hygiene of mess premises and surroundings. to all the students .It also caters to Hospitality requirements as per laid down rules when formally demanded. Special food is provided ones a week.

The mess provides Breakfast, Lunch, Evening tea and snacks, and Dinner facilities

In order to run the Mess effectively and efficiently Mess Committee stands

constituted in which proper representation is given to both boys and girls. To ensure proper hygiene and cleanliness, one Doctor is also nominated as member of the Mess Committee besides others. The Mess Committee holds its meetings periodically to supervise the functioning of Mess properly. At least one such meeting has to be held every month. This committee also decides Menu to be followed during a particular month. The Mess staff is periodically medically examined to ensure that no staff member suffers from any communicable disease.

The Manager of the Mess is responsible for maintaining proper

record of all the assets and purchases of dry ration etc. It is his responsibility to ensure that the expenditure per diet is economical and kept the lowest during a month without compromising with quality of food. He ensures that there is no wastage and pilferage of any item. The Mess Manager is under strict instructions to show due courtesy to all who use the Mess facility. In order to ensure that best quality of food items are purchased for the Mess, there is a proper Purchase Committee constituted under the Chairmanship of the University Registrar. This committee holds its meetings from time to time and reviews all the purchases to be made for the Mess. Special arrangements have been made for garbage disposal in consultation with the Municipal Committee of Solan district so that the University environment remains neat and clean.

STUDENT CENTRE, SPORTS AND OTHER FACILITIES

The University has kept a provision to construct separate building for establishing a

Student Centre within the University Campus. The total covered area of this Student Centre is 34,862.40 Sq. Ft. This Student Centre is being brought up on modern lines having all the facilities for students welfare activities. At present this building is housing the Mess, Gymnasium, Mestaurant, Medical Center and Shopping Complex and in future there will be a provision for Bank, ATM, Post Office, and other public utility services. In view of the hilly terrain there is limited scope for big out door games as vast play grounds are normally not available in the hills. Keeping this constraint in view, more emphasis is being laid on Indoor games. At present we have a highly modern Gymnasium facility for our students both boys and girls. This Gymnasium is equipped with latest health machines. Effort has been made to provide maximum Indoor games facilities to the students. At present they have Table Tennis, Carom Board, Chees Board, and Air Hockey. Billiards Snookers and Pool games etc. There is also facility for Weight Lifting and Boxing. As the University is growing fast, are having planning to have following games facilities for them: Volley Ball field Badminton Courts Basket Ball Courts Lawn Tennis court

If possible in future we will strive to provide Facilities for other bigger games by

acquiring big grounds in near vicinity. We are also contemplating to expand sports facilities in our Students Centre in future.

YOGA AND PRANAYAMA

Daily Yoga and Pranayama session for one hour is held

in the Gym for the faculty, staff, students and any other volunteers in which lot of interest is shown by all. This is with a view to extend the spiritual and physical health and maintain balance in todays busy life. The same is conducted by Director Administration.

We at Bahra University treat the students as our valued customer. We

take utmost care about our students and counsel them. A professor has been designated as Dean, Student Welfare, who heads Cultural, Sports and Hostel Committees. The Students Council has also been constituted.

The Cultural Committee consists of two faculty member along with two student representatives from each branch of different schools. The Sports committee consists of two faculty members and one student representative from each School. The Hostel Committee consists of Wardens along with 12 representatives from students who are staying in the Hostels. The Hostel Committee takes care of the Mess Menu, Hygienic conditions in the Mess, Maintenance of the Hostels, etc. The students council consists of the entire faculty Members of each of the above Committee and two students from each of the above Committee. The main objective of this committee is to co-ordinate among different committee in conducting the events.

Various cultural and sports activities are conducted in an

academic year. The students are encouraged to take active participation in all the events. The Competitions in academic events like Technical Paper Presentation, Modeling and Projects are conducted along with the nonacademic events like Debate, GD, Singing, Classical Music etc. Various indoor Sports events like Carom, Chess, Table Tennis, Billiards, Snooker etc. are also conducted.
The University is having a gymnasium of Global standards.

A 24 hour medical Centre is in place at the University campus. In case of emergencies Ambulance Service is also available not only for the students of our University, but also for the people in the neighborhood.

TOURS AND OUTINGS FOR STUDENT

In order to break the monotony of students in the campus all out efforts are made to take them out on tours and site seeing trips. They are encouraged to visit Campus of other educational institutions as well as other Campus of Rayat Bahra Group situated in different

States. Sometimes the students are also sent on Industrial tours such as to Parwanoo, Baddi, Barotiwala, Kapurthala, Mohali, Chandigarh, Shimla, Solan, Manimagra & Nathpa Jhakri.
All the students residing in the University Hostels are taken out to Shimla, Solan or adjoining places once in a month. Transport is provided by the university for such Outings. The students both boys and girls are sent under the proper escort of Hostel Wardens. During the Year some students of the University were taken to Sonepat and Delhi and as per

the feedback from students they enjoyed the trips and got educated also. In addition students are also taken out for placement drives to various location outside the state.
In order to ensure entertainments of students in the Campus various cultural and Awareness functions are held in the University Orientation Hall. This year a Russian Troup visited our University Campus and gave a very lively Cultural Program which was highly

appreciated by the students and staff as it enriched our students about the culture of foreign country. A program on SAVE WATER was organized which left a very good impact on our students. The students of this University are constantly being encouraged to take part in any educational, cultural and social activities anywhere and for this purpose the University authorities have assured all possible help to the students.

SECURITY SYSTEM

A good security system is the back bone of any Institution. Keeping this in view we

have developed an effective Security system in Bahra University. The security system of Bahra University brings in its ambit following aspects:-

Security of assets, Security of personnel, Access Control, Security of Information,

University Campus policing service and prevention of crime, Maintain discipline in University Campus, Hostels, Mess and assist Deans in maintaining discipline in their respective schools, firefighting, Control of casual workers and visitors, Traffic Control, Management of Parking area, Maintenance of duty roster, Security of duplicate keys, Provide emergency response after working hours, Opening and securing of campus main buildings and facilities, Maintain record of all incoming and outgoing assets of University, operate alarm system etc. including two Security Supervisors. They keep vigil in the entire University Campus round the clock. In order to make the security system effective Daily Roster is prepared and duties of all Security Guards and Security Supervisors are well defined. An effective check is maintained on them by the General Manager who is a retired Military officer. Proper record is maintained of all the security activities. For this purpose certain Registers are prescribed and maintained by the Security In charge. To make the security system more effective an element of surprise checking by Supervisors and General Manager Day and night is introduced. In addition DG/ director Admin oversees all the security related activities.

In order to achieve the above objectives, we have deployed 22 Security Personnel

In order to augment the security needs in future an endeavor is made to recruit

more security personnel especially retired Army personnel who are more apt in handling such duties. In order to keep them active and make more efficient these security personnel are subjected to in house training from time to time.

TRANSPORT SYSTEM

Bahra University has a dedicated and an efficient Fleet of Transport of its own for commuting

students, being looked after by a Transport Manager specially employed for this purpose. The University Buses cover all important routes within the radius of about 40 Kms. from its Campus. Use of University Buses is voluntary and is required to be paid for. All details for the use of Bus facility are mentioned in the University Prospectus and Information Brochure.
At present we have a Fleet of twelve Buses being run on different routes from university

Campus. We have deployed 25 trained drivers and conductors to run these Buses efficiently. All these Buses are fully equipped and being run as per the guidelines on the subject. To cater to the other day to day needs of the University we have four more Light/Medium vehicles. In all, at present 271 students are availing the Bus facilities. As a measure of good gesture the Bus facility has also been extended to the University staff. The details of routes with fare prescribed for different routes are enclosed.
The Transport Manager is under instructions to keep all the vehicles in serviceable condition

by ensuring proper servicing, maintenance and repairs. As the vehicle Fleet is essentially for commuting of students, so the main purpose of transport operation is to ensure that students arrive in the Campus at an appointed time and are taken back home after the classes in a maximum comfort and without wastage of time. Maximum economy is exercised in running the Fleet. The Transport Manager is under directions to maintain vehicle wise record of all vehicles of the University, such as Log Books, History Sheets, details of repairs, consumption of fuel, frequency and expenditure of repairs and record of Condemned Parts of these vehicles, deposit of timely taxes etc.

In order to look after the Health and Welfare aspect of students, staff

and faculty members the University authorities are also maintaining one Ambulance which remains on duty 24 hrs. Two dedicated drives are available with this Ambulance round the clock. To ensure that all the drivers and conductors remain in good state of health a periodical and regular health check is introduced by University authorities. The University Doctor complies meticulously with these instructions. Eye sights of all the Drivers are regularly checked. In order to avoid any mishap regular counseling of these drivers has been ensured. They are advised not to indulge in rash and negligent driving. There is Zero tolerance for drunken driving. Proper discipline is maintained amongst the students while on board. Because of all these stringent measures it is a matter of satisfaction that no accident of University Buses has taken place. Keeping in view the future requirements of our Fleet proper planning is being done to expand the same well in time.

MEDICAL FACILITIES

University Medical Service is an essential ingredient of Health and Welfare activities of Bahra University .In order to look after the health requirements of the University students, staff and faculty members the university has employed a whole time Medical officer and a Nursing Assistant. They are responsible to provide round the clock medical assistance to all concerned in the university. Managing and Maintaining University Medical Care Centre located in the Campus. Ensure that adequate arrangements exist for handling emergencies related to health. Carry out medical examination of the University employees as per the University rules and maintain record thereof. Demand, receive and issue medicines to students and staff as per requirements and rules and maintain proper record. Provide emergency medical care to local population as per policy of the University. Educate students, faculty and staff and their families on matters of personal hygiene health and general fitness. Ensure availability of medical care facilities in Hostels. Tie up with local hospitals to handle emergency medical situations. Ensure proper maintenance, upkeep and utilization of University Ambulance. Ensure availability and proper placing of First Aid Kits. Train selected staff in First Aid with the help of Red Cross Society. Administer staff of Medical Service.

Thus, keeping in view the above, all emergency medicines are available with the Medical Centre. The University Ambulance is kept fully equipped and in ready position to meet any emergency. This Ambulance service is also made

available to the local public in emergency and in the past also we have rendered very useful services to the local people which have been very much appreciated.

ACCOMMODATION FACILITIES

Bahra University has planned to have residential facility to all its staff and Faculty. A

proper residential Plan has already been drawn and is in the process of execution in future. At present the University has hired accommodation for its Faculty and staff members. Those who are desirous of availing accommodation facility are being provided the same. The University has accommodation at Shoghi and Shimla for married staff. For bachelor staff members, furnished accommodation is provided with all facilities near University Campus. There is also provision of accommodation for visiting dignitaries and guests. In case of urgent requirement, the University also hires accommodation in nearby hotels on National Highways near University. The university provides Mess facility to all the visiting dignitaries and guests.

HORTICULTURE AND LANDSCAPING

Beautification by Landscaping and Horticultural activities is an essential part of

development of any Campus. The architect of the University has drawn a detailed plan for this and to execute his plan a full-fledged Horticultural Department under trained Supervisor has already been established in the University Campus. At present one Supervisor along with 9 Gardeners and Labourers have been specially employed by the University for this purpose. This department is responsible for design, planning, development and upkeep of various lawns, gardens, parks and open space of University Campus. They will develop in-house Nursery for various plants and flowers. At present they prepare potted plants within the University to meet the requirement of University campus and ensure their regular maintenance. This is also a Nursery, Herbal garden & Vermiculture.
At present some good quality pots and plants are also being procured from

Chandigarh and Mohali as there is no good nursery available in Himachal Pradesh. These plants are costly species so they need proper maintenance. At present the construction activities are going on in the University Campus so it is a challenging task to develop proper Landscaping and maintain greenery in the Campus. The Horticulture Department is also responsible for proper disposal of campus grass etc. The procurement of plants is done after due care and consideration keeping in view the local climatic conditions.

The University utilizes the services of Director Horticulture of the

Group who keeps visiting the University Campus regularly for this purpose. It is under his technical and specialized advice that Horticultural and Landscaping activities of the University are undertaken.

FUTURISTIC PLANS FOR GROWTH OF INFRASTRUCTURE

Continuous

growth of Institution/Schools and increase in annual intake of existing Organization leads to regular increase and requirement of advance planning. New Schools and Programs including increase in intake necessitate the development of new infrastructural facilities. Thus the future requirements connected with the growth of University are reviewed at the beginning of each academic year or as and when considered necessary, and formalized under approval of Vice Chancellor who by virtue of his position is the Chief Administrator of the University.

In order to improve the amenities in the University

Campus, we plan to have a modern shopping complex, improved medical facilities, a very good Book Store, a General store to cater the daily needs of the students. We have a UCO Bank Branch within the campus. We plan to have an ATM facility and a Post Office inside the University Campus. With the growing number of students we have also planned to augment our Transport system by adding more buses to its existing Fleet. A Mentoring Institute is also coming up in the University which will help in improving the skills of staff. For this, a separate Director with experience in the field has already been appointed in the University. In order to improve the educational quality the University has already entered into MOUs with some foreign Universities.

1. AIEEE Mock test: AIEEE mock test was conducted in the Bahra university campus to simulate the AIEEE test. The question papers were designed to check the knowledge of students so that they can face AIEEE. Prizes were given to top five scorers in the test. Top five scorers with there prize money: Rank 1: Akshit Chauhan, DAV Sr. Sec School- Cash reward of Rs. 11,000 Rank 2: Paras Gupta, DAV Sr. Sec School- Cash reward of Rs. 5,100 Rank 3: Surbhi Chanana, Dayanand Public School, Cash reward of Rs. 3,100 Rank 4: Abhishek Chauhan, BL Central Sr. Secondary School, Cash reward of Rs. 2,100 Rank 5: Mayank Sharma, Dayanand Public School, Cash reward of Rs. 1,100
This year also AIEEE mock test was 2012 in which a large number of students from different schools participated. This year Scholarship tests are also planned

for students planning to take admission in courses- BBA, BCA, BSc (HMCT),MBA and MCA.

The Scholarship/concession in fees will be given to top 20 rank holders in the test. 2013 Mock Test

2. Career Counselling Session: A series of career counselling sessions were conducted at Bahra University campus. The schools were invited for a career counselling session where they were given tips on future career avenues. A guided tour of the university was also conducted. 3. YOUTH FESTIVAL RAMPUR: The event titled Youth festival was organized in Rampur town \on 22nd October 2011. It was organized by Rotary Club and Padhailikhai.com and Bahra University was cosponsor. Total 20 schools and 1400 students from Rampur district participated in the festival. There were four major events in the festival- Debate competition, Quiz, Talent Hunt and painting competition.
Bahra University marketing team put there canopies in the venue. The

stage and the entire event was branded with Bahra University logo. Around 200 banners were put in the entire Rampur town with Bahra University logo in it. The Bahra University logo was also embossed on the certificates and trophies distributed to the winners. We were also given an opportunity to give lecture on Does education lead to career where Mr. Abhinav Nanda spoke signifying the importance of bridging the gap between education and career and role played by Bahra University in it. We also explained the role played by Centre of Excellence and our Career Development Cell in it. We collected data of students and also distributed our marketing material to students, Principals and teachers in the festival Mr. Abhinav was also one of the judge of the festival. Mr. Abhinav Nanda and Mr. Mohit Chauhan represented Bahra University in the festival.

4. YOUTH FESTIVAL NAHAN: Bahra University participated in youth festival Nahan in association with Rotary Club Nahan and padhailikhai.com on 22nd October 2011. The event was attended by around 21 schools and 1400 students of Sirmour district.
There were four major events- Debate competition, Quiz,

Talent Hunt and painting competition where children exhibited there talent . 5. Mock CMAT Test: Mock CMAT entrance test was conducted at Bahra University campus on 11th Feb 2012. The mock CMAT was conducted online so as to help students preparing for CMAT examination. Students from Shimla and Solan district planning to appear for CMAT appeared in the entrance test. Cash prizes were given to the students who were top three in the test.

6. AIEEE mock test was conducted on 3rd April 2011 in the Bahra University campus to help students prepare for AIEEE. More than 700 students participated in the mock test.

Free health checkup and Career Counselling Session in association with HP Govt.: A series of free health checkup of general public and career counselling for village students were organized by Bahra University in association with Assistant Commissioner (Development)- under lab to land initiative of Govt. of India. 2. Annual Function of Chopal Students Welfare Association


Bahra University participated in annual festival of Chopal Students

welfare association. The function was organized at the Gaiety theatre at the Mall, Shimla on 6th December. Sh. C.R.B Lalit- Registrar Bahra University was the Chief Guest of the function. More than 2000 students from Chopal tehsil of Shimla studying in colleges, H. P University participated in the function. There were lots of cultural activities including young artistes from Chopal. Registrar Bahra university spoke about the progress made by students from Chopal in various areas. Mr. Abhinav Nanda- Dy. DirectorMarketing, Bahra University gave a speech on the Bahra University and inroads made by Rayat Bhara group in field of higher education, placements being offered to Bahra University students, Centre of Excellence and our tie up with various foreign universities. and also spoke about talented students from Chopal area. In Bahra University among Shimla district students students from Chopal constitute the highest. Ms. Ritu PRO Bahra University was also present in the function.

3. Annual Sports function of Wakna Village : Canopy activity was done in annual sports tournament and fair. A brief speech was also given about the university, various courses being run by it, the placements of the group and Centre of Excellence. Brochures were also distributed to all. Sh. CRB Lalit- Registrar- Bahra University was the Chief Guest of the function. It was attended by Mr. Abhinav Nanda, Ms. Ritu Shah, Mr. Tarun Mahindroo. 4. Youth Festival, Palampur : A youth festival was organized by Bahra University in association with padhailikhai.com at Palampur . Total 17 schools and 1200 students participated in the function. There were four major events- Debate competition, Quiz, Talent Hunt and painting competition where children exhibited thair talent . Mr. Abhinav Nanda spoke for around half an hour on Does Education Lead to Career also talking about career opportunities available after school signifying the latest trends in education and hot careers of current times. Bahra University marketing team put there canopies in the venue. The stage and the entire event was branded with Bahra University logo. Around 50 banners were put in the entire Palampur town with Bahra University logo in it. The Bahra University logo was also present on the certificates and trophies distributed to the winners. Mr. Abhinav Nanda and Mr. Tarun Mohindroo represented Bahra University in the festival.

5. Blood Donation Camp: A blood donation camp in association with Indira Gandhi Medical College Hospital was organized at Bahra University campus on 28th November 2011. Total 150 volunteers donated blood in the camp. Registrar and Vice Chancellor of Bahra University congratulated students for this noble cause.
Bahra University is continuously striving to contribute its bit towards the society and is taking more and more Corporate Social Responsibility Initiatives in order to serve the community at large.

AIDS awareness camp was organised at Bahra University campus on 7th December 2010. Doctors from Bahra University and from health department gave valuable information about AIDS to villagers and workers. A tree plantation drive was organised by Bahra University at Navbahar area Shimla .The objective was to conserve the forest wealth of Shimla with plantation of Deodar saplings, the majestic trees that have added a touch of beauty to the hill town. Chief Guest Mr. Suresh Bhardwaj, MLA while inaugurating the tree plantation campaign lauded the role of Bahra University for organising such an event.

iii) A Medical Counselling session was organised by Bahra University at St. Lukes School Solan on 28th July 2010.The purpose of the session was to guide children on waterborne diseases in the rainy season. While taking the session, Dr. Sanjay Aggarwal said that prevention is better than cure and guided students on various preventive remedies. iv) Bahra University organised a interactive session cum lecture on general health at Portmore Govt. Senior Secondary School Shimla on July 14, 2010. v) Bahra University organised an interactive session cum lecture on general health at Geeta Adarsh School, Solan and DAV Public School, Mandi. vi) Bahra University organised a tree plantation drive and health counselling session at Brahmrishi Mission Senior Secondary School, Bhuntar. vii) Bahra University organized a tree plantation drive at govt. Middle school Kandor. The function was presided by Block development Officer, Mr Rajiv Sood. viii) World Youth day was celebrated on Aug 12, 2010 by Bahra University by organising a walk by school children on the ridge. Students marched on the ridge with social awareness message to the youth of the state .The aim of the International Youth Day is to endorse consciousness among youth about poverty, education, employment, health, drug exploitation, declining sex ratio and women empowerment. ix) A seminar for school children of DAV Public School, Solan was organized on Career prospects and Time management at Bahra University campus on 15th December 2010. A candle light march at ridge - Shimla was done on 26th November 2010 to pay homage to the martyrs of Mumbai test.
