DEFINATION OF OCCUPATIONAL HYGIENE


Occupational hygiene is defined as the practice of those science and arts devoted to the anticipation, identification, evaluation and control of occupational stresses, arising in or from the work place which may cause sickness, impaired health and well being or significant discomfort

Occupational hygiene is a science devoted to the anticipation ,recognition (or identification ), evaluation and control of hazards arising in or from the work place which would impair the health and well being of people at work, while also taking into account the possible impacts on the general environment.

Objectives of occupational hygiene programmes involve : Anticipation,Recognition Evaluation and Control of work environment.

Industrial Hygiene Programme.

Recognized the Various stresses generated in a particular work environment( qualitative assessment)

Evaluation in terms of its magnitude an operation that involves one or more measurements with the insights gain through past experience.(quantitat ive assessment)

Stress must be controlled through engineering methods

Industrial Hygiene=Science of Exposure Assessment + Control


The science of qualitative and quantitative exposure assessment is applied in determining the extent of exposure These data are then used in determining the need for implementing prevention and control measures
