The device number is created in MM with the function Goods Receipt. At the utility company, the device is labeled with this number. The device number can also be generated when you create a device in IS-U. The device is identified by a unique material and serial number combination to distinguish it from other pieces. The equipment number is the same throughout the whole system.

Schedule Records are created periodically from the Schedule Master Data. They define the actual dates that each MRU is read and Portion billed.

Meter Reading from Start to Finish

A Meter Reading Order (MRO) and a Billing Order are created together. The MRO has status MRO Created and the Billing Order has a Status of Not Billable The reading is performed. The reading is entered on the MRO. The reading is validated. If the reading is Plausible, the MRO is set to status Billable, and the Billing Order is set to status Billable. If the reading is Implausible, the MRO is set to status Automatically Blocked, and the Billing Order remains on status Not Billable. Implausible readings are corrected, estimated, or released. In each case the MRO is set to status Billable or Released by Clerk and the Billing Order is set to status Billable. The nightly billing run selects all Billing Orders with status Billable and executes billing.

Service Order Features

Each Order has an Order Type and an Activity Type (a hierarchical way of defining the type of work to be performed) Each Order has a Functional Location (with a corresponding Object Address) defining where the work is to be done, and a Business Partner (with a corresponding Customer Address) defining who wants the work done

One or more Operations break down the work into logical steps
One or more Materials identify what needs to be taken into the field for use or consumption during the course of the work (e.g. tools or spare parts)

One or more pieces of Equipment can be specified representing the physical assets to be worked on
Links to the Sales and Distribution (SD) module of SAP in order to charge for work done and materials used.
